Your recent changes at the Kadesh articles.

[edit]

Hi! just letting you know I've reverted both your additions to the articles related to the Battle of Kadesh. I have a couple of reasons for this. First of all WP:DUE demands that we limit the amount of words we spend on any theory relative to how popular it is. The one you added does not seem to have a lot of traction, so at most it should probably be included as at most a couple sentences. This is to prevent articles from becoming infinitely large, and to stop editors from manipulating them to reflect their personal viewpoint over that of others. Secondly, articles shouldn't cover the same ground twice, so adding the same text to two articles is best avoided. If you want to challenge this decision, you can try to build consensus for your edits by discussing them on the talk page of the articles in question. Good luck on your future editing endeavours! --Licks-rocks (talk) 18:36, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You've got a lot of it. The sections on the Ten commandments and the Two Spies seem to be virtually OR. "In one variant of the 'prose' inscription[1], Ramesses II is described as follows; "while he was like a whirlwind when it comes forth from the sky. His might was like a flame in the brush" mirroring the Pillars of fire and cloud which are cited as a dual manifestation of God within the Bible, first mentioned in Chapter 13 of Exodus." That's OR. "This parallels the use of the Ark as noted in the Book of Samuel, "David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the LORD with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals." Worshippers can be observed in the Kadesh inscriptions kneeling and praying before Ramesses II's bark." And that is also. Doug Weller talk 16:12, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for explaining those points - apologies for not citing additional sources. On that basis I should start by writing a few sentences explaining Bermans et al's research and only build up as I have time to add additional sources? If you have independent reliable sources about him or you are citing Bergman. Doug Weller talk 07:59, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To be clear, the section you are trying to include is two or three times as long as any of the other sections. I've just gone through it sentence by sentence and all of it is either sourced to primary sources or completely unsourced. I've tried looking for alternative sources and found none. Repeatedly inserting content you want inserted without waiting for discussion is called edit warring and can lead to a ban. If you want to have a segment included in the article, workshop it in your sandbox, and then propose the change you want to make on the talk page. Only when other editors agree that the inclusion is warranted can you reinsert it into the article. ----Licks-rocks (talk) 10:30, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Got it - I had no idea that was the protocol for making changes like that. I would like to propose additions to the page with this research, as it is very relevant, so I will put that together as you have explained.
Thanks for walking me through the process. BronzeAgeHistorian (talk) 13:45, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please don’t edit other editors’ posts

Thanks. Doug Weller talk 12:24, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doug, Sure thing - just so I understand, what constitutes editing another editors post, as opposed to simply editing a page on Wikipedia? I ask because I've made many edits to Wikipedia pages over the past 15 years and not run into issues before so I want to make sure I'm not getting the process wrong.
