Thomas Byard

[edit]

Hello there! I see that back in July 2011 you made some changes to the article on Thomas Byard, who I assume from your name is an ancestor of yours? Thankyou for your interest in the article, but can I ask where the information you added comes from? On wikipedia it is important to provide sources to corroborate edits you make in order that they can be checked by other editors if called into question, paricularly if, as in this case, the edits contradict published sources already provided in the article. In the meantime I will be changing the article back so that it accords with the source, but if you have corrections and can corroborate them I'd be very happy to see new information incorporated into the article.

Thank you for your query,I am indeed a direct descendant of Thomas Byard, who was my 5 great grandfather. If you could specify exactly what items you require verification of, I would be pleased to provide evidence.I have been collecting information on Sir Thomas for over 30 years.

Regards Byard Sheppard

Gald to hear from you. Firstly I'd be looking for a source which proves your changes to the article that Byard died in 1798 and not 1800 as stated in the source given at the bottom of the article. Beyond that, anything that you can provide on the life of this interesting but little known man would be valuable. Bear in mind though that all information has to come from published resources - it cannot be your own research (unless you've published it somewhere).

The date I cited is from Sir Thomas's memorial on the wall of St Budeaux Church,Devon.I don't know if a memorial classes as "published" but the text reads "He died at sea,Captain of His Majesty's Ship Foudroyant on the 30th Day of October ,1798:aged 55 years and his mortal remains lie interred in this church" I have tried for many years to find an account of his death, but I have found nothing conclusive.I have always presumed that he may have been wounded during the action at Loch Swilley. Regards Byard

Haven't heard from you since my last reply, and details in the article still say 1800.Will you change or should I? Byard — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.237.10.138 (talk) 20:11, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
