How do I change a spelling error in an article title?

[edit]

I have responded to this question on the Wikipedia:Help desk, please see that page for details. Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for contributing! — Estarriol talk 13:37, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple Jacob Hoeppner articles

[edit]

Just to let you know, it's general Wikipedia policy to have a single article about each subject, and use redirects to link other possible names with it. Furthermore, it's general policy for biographical articles to use the non-titled name for the subject. To clean this up, I've changed Deputy Jacob Hoeppner to be a simple redirect to the correctly titled article, Jacob Hoeppner. If you have any questions about editing, you're welcome to ask them on my talk page, or of course, on the Help Desk as before. Thanks for contributing! — Estarriol talk 14:09, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jacob Hoeppner

Copied from my talk page for context — Estarriol talk

Thanks Estarriol, I appreciate the edits you did on my page titled Jacob Hoeppner. Is there anything more I need to do to Wikify it? It looks complete to my untrained eye. --Cfheppner 16:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it could do with some more internal linking, which is a fair part of what "wikifying" means. We cannot assume that readers know where (or even what) some of the places are. Danzig, Prussia, Russia, the Crimea, etc. It could also do with some work on paragraphs and possibly sections, although it's really currently a stub (I should probably mark it up as such). There's a grey area in wikifying which goes beyond simple reformatting into expansion, and I'm sure it could be expanded as an article. A photo or illustration of some form (with correct copyright) would be a good idea at some point. I would definitely want to see some attention to paragraphs and sections, and more relevant internal article links before I'd remove the wikify tag from the page. Please see WP:WIKIFY for further guidance.
Now, as to whether there's any need for you to do this - no. There's quite a large and devoted team working to improve articles that have been tagged for wikify - I am part of it - and part of the wonder of Wikipedia is that, by and large, people will help improve articles they initially know nothing about just to improve the treasure vault of knowledge that this encyclopedia is. Of course, you can continue to work on the article.
What the article really needs is verifiability - it needs to cite sources, one of the requirements for inclusion in the encyclopedia. In my humble opinion, the best thing you can do to help the article now is find some sources - online or published work - for the facts you've presented here. If you can find those, I'm happy to help you include links to them in the article. Let me know on my talk page if you want to do that. — Estarriol talk 20:39, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
