P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate diooxygenase inhibitors

[edit]

Hi, I see you altering the layout of the images in P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate diooxygenase inhibitors. Please don't use nbsp to position captions for images. The thumb parameter allows the caption to be attached to the image. The reason is that with nbsp people with different screen sizes, or font selections will not see the same thing. Also blind people using screen readers will just be confused. Try narrowing your screen of your browser to see what a mess it makes, or look what happens on an iPhone. Also you may wish to consider using the <gallery> tag instead of the table using { and |. You can read Wikipedia:Image and Wikipedia:Picture tutorial to learn more. Introduction added

[edit]

I have now added an introductory paragraph. This took a while to find suitable references for every point, but the ones I have added are very sound and do add to the quality of the article. Chemager (talk) 19:06, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The original title of this article was "===Discovery and Development of p-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate Diooxygenase (HPPD) Inhibitors as Herbicides and Pharmaceuticals===" this has now been truncated to "p-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate Diooxygenase (HPPD) Inhibitors". That really is not reflective of the content of article. How can this be changed back, or am I missing something? Chemager (talk) 21:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Title change?

[edit]

There is a misspelling in the title of the article. Dioxygenase should only have one "o". How do I make this change? I seem to only be able to change the text of the article. Chemager (talk) 12:24, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chemager, I've got rid of that o and moved the article to P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitors - one of the odd features of wikis is that you don't rename pages, you move them to other names, I once heard a plausible explanation as to why that is so but the rationale now escapes me. Someone has tagged it for wp:WikiProject Chemistry so I suspect that you will get more feedback from people who are interested in chemistry if you raise article related queries on Talk:P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitors or at the wikiProject. cheers ϢereSpielChequers 05:56, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the article really needs some clarification. I know enough chemistry & biochemistry to do it, but I think it's really your responsibility. I suggest you organize the article with a section about what the enzyme does, then about the chemistry of the inhibitors, then about how they bind to and inhibit the enzyme. There should be a section on the discovery, but I'm not sure where that best goes--though logically first, it is difficult to really understand it without presenting the chemistry first. Then follows a section about the agricultural applications and one about the medical ones.

There should be a separate introduction, but its best to write this after writing the rest. DGG ( talk ) 02:39, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You raise an interesting point, because, although the primary thrust of the article is on the nature and dynamics of the discovery process, it would be much better of there was further clarification of points such as "what the enzyme does, then about the chemistry of the inhibitors, then about how they bind to and inhibit the enzyme" etc. for readers who are not overly technical. I believe that I can do this by inserting hyperlinks to other Wikipedia articles which treat all of these technical subjects in great detail. I'll try to make these changes today.Chemager (talk) 12:58, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Introductory Paragraph OK?

[edit]

I have a bit of a problem in that I have added an introductory paragraph to my article, but the statement that

To comply with Wikipedia's lead section guidelines, the introduction of this article may need to be rewritten. Please discuss this issue on the talk page and read the layout guide to make sure the section will be inclusive of all essential details. (May 2012)

still remains. Is there something more I need to do? The reason I ask this is that we are leaving for Tokyo on Tuesday and I'm trying to tidy up as much stuff as I can before we leave. it took a while to find appropriate references for a general introductory paragraph, but I'm really quite pleased with what I added.

Title Change

[edit]

The title of this article was changed from P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitors to P-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor [singular]. This title is just inappropriate in that the triketones represent a class of inhibitors not a single one. I remain puzzled as to just why this was done. Is there any way to make the title more representative of the subject matter? Chemager (talk) 16:44, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
