My apologies. I hadn't read that section of the policy for some time. It's not as helpful as it used to be. Let me try to recreate the useful steps as I remember them.

  • The first step is proving that you are who you say you are. While I am a strong believer in the right to vanish, we have had problems in the past with users impersonating real people and abusing the process to get content taken down inappropriately. You said in the RfD comment that you've already taken down your Facebook page. Do you maintain some other, independent site that clearly self-identifies (and has significant pre-existing history) on which only you could make some minor, pre-arranged change? Or do you have an email account with your employer that you could use to send me a note confirming your identity? (I recommend an employer-provided account because 1) they tend to be real-name-based and 2) it's harder to create a fake account than it is to use, say, AOL to impersonate someone.)
  • Once that's done, I will change my "keep" opinion in the RfD discussion. I might even be willing to exercise my own admin-override discretion to just delete the redirect in accordance with the Meta policy. Getting your name out of the Liero article might require more discussion.
  • I will also help you delete the history of this discussion page and hide and lock down the RfD discussions after closure if you like. Admins would still be able to see the deleted history but it would be invisible to regular readers and to bots.
  • If you are uncomfortable working with me (and I'm a stranger hiding behind a pseudonym, too - a certain irony in the situation), you can send a letter to Wikipedia Counsel at Wikimedia Foundation Inc, 149 New Montgomery Street, 3rd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105. You could include any of a number of forms of proof of identity - a photocopy of a drivers license, utility bill, etc. That would trigger the WP:OFFICE process which would override any deletion discussion. And because it would be a letter to legal counsel, the request itself would be protected.
  • I don't know what to tell you about the Facebook page, though. I consider Facebook's approach to privacy to be just shy of criminal. Those Wikipedia-clone pages are an abuse of both Wikipedia and Facebook. I have a Facebook account but only to preempt anyone else from ever using it. LinkedIn does a better job with privacy settings in my opinion. And even there, I am very circumspect in what I allow to be posted.

Ping me through Wikipedia email and we can continue the conversation off-line. Rossami (talk) 15:51, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
