Did you mean to restore the vandalism on my user page?

Hi Dan,

You just reverted my user page to a vandalized version. Was that your intention? Ebikeguy (talk) 18:29, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Of course not, it was a misclick as I was trying to see if the ip had been blocked and accidentally hit rollback, my bad.Dan653 (talk) 18:57, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Figured it was something like that. I just wanted to make sure your little brother hadn't hijacked your computer. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 19:17, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
You too! Dan653 (talk) 19:18, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

AFT5 newsletter

Hey again all :). So, some big news, some small news, some good news, some bad news!

On the "big news" front; we've now deployed AFT5 on to 10 percent of articles, This is pretty awesome :). On the "bad news", however, it looks like we're having to stop at 10 percent until around September - there are scaling issues that make it dangerous to deploy wider. Happily, our awesome features engineering team is looking into them as we speak, and I'm optimistic that the issues will be resolved.

For both "small" and "good" news; we've got another office hours session. This one is tomorrow, at22:00 UTC in#wikimedia-office connect - I appreciate it's a bit late for Europeans, but I wanted to juggle it so US east coasters could attend if they wanted :). Hope to see you all there!

Looks great and i fixed one minor spelling mistake. Send it out ASAP. Dan653 (talk) 00:05, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
We think that the WP:CVU/VS page is 100% ready for "attendance"? If so, I'll send out tonight. Theopolisme TALK 00:21, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes I do. Make sure we have you have it watchlisted so we can see who renews their membership. Dan653 (talk) 00:24, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Anti Vandalism Personal Study Material

I have started working with my own study material User:Titodutta/CVU. Still lots of works to be done in this page, but I think I am ready to take 1 student now. See question 2 here, is it too difficult or okay? Also help needed: example of page lengthening vandalism, I know about this type of vandalism, but I can not find any example! --Tito Dutta 04:04, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Do I need to bid after every enrolment? --Tito Dutta 04:33, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
It's first come first serve. If you get to the enroll page first when a new student enrolls feel free to {{tick}} if they meet the requirements and take the student. Just make sure to add {{already done}} so the bot will archive it and don't forget to update the status page. When enrollees aren't being taken that's when I jump and say you take this one and you take the other one. So... I like your study material and could you take Guo? Thanks Dan653 (talk) 16:09, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
Please change the procedure, if possible. Let co-ordinator decide which instructor will take which student! It's not very comfortable to go and say "I'll take you". The only thing I want in a student is good and polite behaviour. After that they are new or old, has 1 edit or 1000 edits, has been warned or blocked– that does not matter. Actually I have worked with new editors already. I have adopted 3 editors and you can see in this good article review I took a new editor as guest reviewer so that they can learn more about Wikipedia editing, MoS etc. They told this was helpful for them.
But, going and requesting to take a student is very uncanny for me. If possible please change the process. The authority/co-ordinator will decide who'll take which student. --Tito Dutta 00:57, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Hi Tito Dutta. The reason we don't get coordinators to assign students to instructors is that is gets a bit bureaucratic and creates a lot of unnecessary work. Dan and Theo don't have any extra authority and that's the way it should be - we want to encourage everyone, students and instructors, to get involved and take the initiative when they have an idea. If we said that one of the coordinators had to accept every student and then assign them to an instructor it would waste everyone's time: they probably have something better to do, and we all have to wait for them to be around. If you think you are ready to take on a student, just go for it! If you are a little unsure or think you might need support, let someone at the academy know - we are all friendly and will help you if you need it. If you want one of us to help you through instructing your first student, or just monitor your progress to check how you're getting on, we'd be more than happy to. WP: CVUA/E

Please take a look at the last request there. The user has been on here for less than a month, but I'd like you and Theo to decide what to do. IMHO, what's wrong with expanding the academy? Best, Electric Catfish12:05, 7 August 2012 (UTC).

Typo fixing

Whoa there, Tiger! Be careful with AWB - you've been running it on actual discussions and other users comments, which is actually against policy - you aren't supposed to change others comments. In any case, just letting you know! Thanks, and enjoy your new toy... xD.Theopolisme TALK 22:53, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Not new at all, but thanks for the reminder. I've had AWB rights for a while, but sparingly use it. Dan653 (talk) 22:54, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I also have AWB rights, but it isn't compatible on my computer (neither is Huggle). Electric Catfish 15:02, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Not on Wikibreak!

Hello, I am not on Wikibreak. But, trying to take one (for last 2 months :-( ). I added a note too at the top of my talk page too and mentioned "not on Wikibreak". I added this because I don't want to participate in too many time taking works now (Featured article, Peer review, whole (long) article restructuring, copyedit. I don't think I'll take Wikibreak in next few weeks since still I have 2 GA reviews in hand. You can surely expect I'll inform you or someone before taking Wikibreak with detailed information date I'll not be available etc. Should I remove that "trying to take Wikibreak" message now? Is it confusing? I have found at least 4 people misreading it! --Tito Dutta 00:47, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I think the "read carefully" might be a bit obnoxious in this case... hmm... But if they don't get the message, then it might make sense to leave it. Up to you, of course. Theopolisme TALK 00:51, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

A kind word

Hi Dan. You probably missed that where I started the bird flying, the good Worm has turned and stepped in with more sound advice and suggestions. Whether the project or one of its members talk pages is 'home-base', discussions are discussions here on Wikipedia and anyone can voice their opinion. You voiced your opinion on RfA and so did I, and as the initiator of the biggest RfA reform project ever, I'm most unlikely to overstep the mark with my remarks on an RfA, because I feel very strongly about avoiding flame wars on them. Point is however, the remark about NPP mentoring was indeed made somewhere, either on one of the many CVU pages or on one of it's member's talk pages. Things like this and this are what are getting the CVU project a few raised eyebrows from a lot of experienced editors who are watching the development of the CVU and its academy from the sidelines. To be taken seriously, counter-vandalism efforts need to win a strong reputation - perhaps my comments on the bottom of that archived page are a sobering thought. Take care. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:12, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey, on the first "this" I probably did act like a smart ass, but everyone got the point I was trying to make, and it was a valid point. On the second "this", yeah I know major problem, very bad etc. As I'm sure you know I can't control what the instructors say; only constantly remind them that the CVUA not=to rollback rights, which I get, as I always have. I don't have all the instructors talk pages watchlisted, so if a NPP conversation came up there I wouldn't know about it. Lastly, if eyebrows are being raised I wish those experienced editors would voice their concerns to us. I'm no mind reader, so if anyone has a problem with the CVUA they need to get off the sideline and as always be bold and jump right in, not raise eyebrows. Dan653 (talk) 17:16, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
The rollback thing was a misinterpretation on my part. To be honest, the Riley/Grizzly thing could have been handled better. Electric Catfish 21:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Eyebrows are being raised, but I think that enough experienced users and admins have already chimed in, and if the CVU would take their comments in GF rather than react indignantly to constructive criticism, it will all work out fine in the end. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:54, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
