Milwaukee Road Depot List

I don't have any objection to combining the lists. My thought was that "Milwaukee Road" is a more common name than C.M.St.P. & P.R.R., and if the lists are merged, there should be a redirect from or to that name somewhere in there. Einbierbitte (talk) 22:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Santa Fe Depot of Pauls Valley

Hi Dan ... I see that you added Santa Fe Depot of Pauls Valley to National Register of Historic Places listings in Oklahoma. I've done some research on that property this morning. There's no record of it in the NRIS database and the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office doesn't have it listed in its online National Register Handbook, so I don't think it has its own listing. I did find a nomination form on the NPS website indicating that it is (was?) one of two contributing properties to the Territorial Era Santa Fe Depots in South Central Oklahoma Thematic Resource (TR). Me again ... I just spoke to someone at the museum there and she confirmed that it does not have its own listing on the NRHP but that she thinks its a contributing property to the Pauls Valley Historic District. --sanfranman59 (talk) 17:46, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

NRHP.com is not affiliated with the NPS and cannot be relied upon to accurately reflect the official NRHP database. It has been my experience that they list properties that have simply been identified as eligible for the NRHP, but not necessarily officially listed by the NPS. Given that the person I spoke to at the museum (on the phone, not email) was quite clear that the site is not listed separately on the NRHP and that it doesn't come up in a search of the NRIS database, I think it's safe to assume that it is not listed. What do you mean when you say "I still want to know why there's a separate listing for the station itself"? Are you talking about the listing on NRHP.com? If so, again, I don't think we should use it as a reliable source when we can get information straight from the horse's mouth (the NPS and the site itself). --sanfranman59 (talk) 20:01, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I think the NPS assigns a reference number when a site is determined to be eligible to submit a nomination by the state historic preservation office based on age, integrity and significance. In the recent listings, you will sometimes see a site listed as "Determined Eligible" and it has a reference number, but the site is not officially listed on the Register until later after a complete nomination has been submitted and approved. A recent example is the Greenwood Underpass in Mississippi which was "determined eligible" on 11/12/2008 and assigned refnum 08001045. In the case of the Santa Fe Depot we've been discussing, the person I spoke with at the museum said that they had tried to get the site listed on the NRHP, but had failed because of modifications that were made to the building. It was probably assigned a refnum at that time. I think I've got this right, but you should by all means follow-up with either the site or the NPS to confirm. --sanfranman59 (talk) 23:42, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Not as long as there is a source that confirms that it is indeed a contributing property to a current NRHP listing. The woman I spoke to this morning at the museum seemed to think it was part of the Pauls Valley Historic District, but it would be nice to confirm that by checking the nomination for that district. However, the site should be removed from National Register of Historic Places listings in Oklahoma since these articles are only supposed to include listed properties. --sanfranman59 (talk) 00:30, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

The Territorial Era Santa Fe Depots in South Central Oklahoma nomination form has some historical information, although it's more about the role of the railroad in the territory than specifically about the depot. Whitehall Street–South Ferry (New York City Subway)
