Article deletion
[edit]Hi, I received a notification that your article was up for deletion. Looking at the article, it looks like the material is more of a collection of notes as opposed to an article on the Cholera epidemic. This would need to be completely re-written to fit Wikipedia's style guidelines.
The article should generally be set up in this order:
- Lead paragraph that introduces the article topic. It would be something like this:
- The city of Lexington, Kentucky has experienced two major cholera epidemics, in 1883 and 1849. An estimated (insert number here) died as a result of the two epidemics and resulted in major changes (general statement about changes).
- Section giving a bit of context about the city, especially as it pertains to how cholera could have become an epidemic.
- Section about the 1883 epidemic
- Section about the 1840 epidemic
- Section about the legacy and impact of the epidemics
The sources should be in-line and should also be specifically about the cholera epidemics in Lexington. I saw that some of your sources were more generally about cholera or were about epidemics in other places. Be aware that using these would likely be seen as original research unless you're using them to back up a very basic fact about cholera, as using those to emphasize something or draw comparisons between the epidemics in Ohio and Kentucky would be seen as your own research. Academic and scholarly sources would be best, since they'll most likely be the ones that are the strongest and most accurate, but popular press sources like news articles are fine as well. Some good sources can be these: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9].
This still needs a lot of work, so the page should definitely not be live at this point in time. I've asked if it would be OK for this to be moved back to your sandbox so you can work on this - it should only be moved live once you have completed your work. - Good news! Ymblanter was kind enough to move the article to Draft:Cholera epidemic in Lexington, KY so you can work on developing this. Definitely make sure that you thank him for being willing to do this! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:55, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
