Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello, Dan, I'm Kafziel. I was at the NYC meetup, so now that you have a username I may as well be the first to say hello. I'm not sure how much you already know about editing Wikipedia so some of these links might not be necessary for you, but I give them to every new user. If you decide to stay and edit, they may come in handy someday.
Here are some links you might find helpful:
- User tutorial
- Help desk
- Policy on maintaining a neutral point of view
- Policy for content when editing articles and creating new ones
- Notability guidelines for people
- Tips for settling disputes
- Guidelines for properly writing and formatting articles
I give every newcomer two tips for adding content: cite references whenever possible, and try to set aside any personal points of view. Aside from that, just be patient and receptive, ask questions whenever you need to, and have a good time. If you want to experiment with coding or see how articles will look before you post them, you can use your own private sandbox at User:Danson/sandbox for any tests you want to do. (The link will turn blue after you start the page.)
Now that you have your own user name, you can sign your comments on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically stamp your user name, the time, and the date. That will help other users reply to your posts. You may also want to fill out your user page to tell others a bit about yourself.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me for help. Good luck with your project, and happy editing! Kafziel Talk 12:38, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
