Re:Kanabekobaton

Oh sorry. When i went to submit my reply i got edit conflict and afterwards i did noticed your reply. Sorry. --SkyWalker (talk) 17:15, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice and assistance on that redirect. I'll try and merge the relevant content from the redirected page. - EronTalk 18:52, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Let's suppose for a moment that "Kanabekobaton" can read Japanese better than he can read English. First you sent him an ambiguous message in brusque Japanese, repeatedly. Then he got blocked. Four hours after that, you sent him a message that tells him that if he is not responsive, he'll be blocked. Do you think he will have been helped by this?
I infer from this edit of yours that you have very limited ability in Japanese (if any). Nothing dishonorable about that. But here's a strong suggestion: Don't attempt to write messages in Japanese. (If you really want to post a message in Japanese, go here, explain what the situation is, and ask for help.
I encourage you to remove your latest message. It was probably well-intentioned but it just looks bizarre. And it's quite unnecessary: The edit record of this user, however irritating, suggests that his ability to understand written English is not bad; if he really can't write a reply in English, he'll still be able to understand enough to write a reply in Japanese. If, that is, he wants to. -- Hoary (talk) 13:30, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Ah, here I wrote If you want him to respond, you might take your cue; kind of historical present for something expressed less ambiguously as If you'd wanted him to respond, you might have taken your cue. Anyway, the message is now misplaced. -- Hoary (talk) 14:37, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

No worries, you were clearly trying to help. I've spent enough time in Japan that, with my lack of understanding (only a few dozen words), I'd never dream of trying to spin something up in Kanji/Kana, even with a computer. Even Japanese have trouble with it, several educated Japanese have told me that newspapers and the popular press in Japan are loaded with mistaken characters and wordings. Meanwhile and only for the fun of telling it, I remember once going out for a spring afternoon stroll in a big coastal city in Japan. I soon wandered into a spotlessly tidy, modern local neighbourhood where all the dozens of signs and markings were Japanese with not a single Latin character to be seen (no western logos, nothing, not even a Seven-Eleven sign!). "So," I thought, "this is what it's like to be illiterate." Gwen Gale (talk) 17:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! Re: Kanabekobaton (redux)

Hi - yeah, I thought about changing it to F myself, but I thought you would change it once you looked at it. He's persistent, isn't he? The biggest problem I have is his changes to television networks that show various American football games or basketball games, because he's not American and doesn't know the history. He's made changes to 3 or 4 articles on different Super Bowl games that changed the televised network from American Broadcasting Company to Monday Night Football. I've been around for all the Super Bowls (and all of Monday Night Football), and there's never been a Super Bowl on a Monday night during the regular NFL season. :-)

If you happen to find other socks, let me know - I think CheckUser will find a few more and I'll be happy to block them until he shows up and explains himself and his edits. - KrakatoaKatie 01:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not at all startled by this. Gwen Gale (talk) 02:03, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

  • BTW, I resigned from Wikipedia a short while ago after what I think was a productive time as editor, in part out of frustration for having to deal with this individual. I'm glad to see that this has been dealt with. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:46, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
    • Heh. You resigned. I ended up in the hospital. Just got home this afternoon. :) DarkAudit (talk) 20:28, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
