Hey DerDoc, let me be the first to welcome you on your talk page. Thanks for your contributions and thanks for attempting to fix the introduction on the Safavids page.

However, there are some things I would like to bring up.

First, I had made other fixes and Wikilinks throughout the article in places other than the introduction, these other changes were removed during the editing: [1] Scroll down to see the changes.

Secondly, regarding the introduction:

a)The Safavid ruling dynasty was Azerbaijani-speaing and closely attached to the militant "Qizilbash" ("Red Heads") movement, attracting many of the Turkic-speaking tribes of Anatolia and Caucasus to fight for the Safavid cause.

  • The Safavids were Azerbaijani speaking, but not because that was their primary language. Minorsky clearly states that Ismail used the Turkic dialects to attract followers in a region where the majority of the tribes were Turkic speaking. He clearly states it was for political purposes.
  • Also, the Safavids were bilingual, they not only spoke Azerbaijani, but Persian as well.

b)The ethnic origins of the family itself are controversial

  • There is not such controversy in the Safavid historian community. All the major authoritative scholarly sources regarding the Safavids had been used in the previous version [2] and their conclusion is that the Safavids were originally Kurdish in descent.

c)The template History of Greater Iran has to be replaced with the template History of Iran, as the Safavids were an Iranian dynasty. The History of Greater Iran template was created for articles such as the Seljuk Empire, where empires not originating in Iran founded dynasties that were Iranian in culture or language (for example, the Seljuks practiced Iranian culture and spoke Persian).

Again, thanks for your help. Hope you enjoy Wikipedia.Hajji Piruz 17:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why create such a template just for Seljuks? DenizTC 00:30, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Derdoc, you broke WP:3RR at least on Seljuq dynasty, please revert yourself. DenizTC 14:45, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
