Gertrude Warner[edit]
A belated welcome to wikipedia I am glad you contributed to your mother's article. I suppose you notice the picture you supplied for its use. Recently I heard your mother perform on an episode of Theater Five, from the early to mid 60s K3vin (talk) 05:02, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Actor Actress[edit]
Hi Doug, I am just now looking at this moving stuff I had titled it (actor) avoid confusion with the writer, and in October someone switched it to actress. Until I saw your objection, it really was not my battle. But seeing your viewpoint. I may need to take it up with higher authorities. You and I are both right, and am pretty sure the move was against wikirules. But No sense getting too upset, it will work out. Sometimes wikiadmins get real controlly about things. and maybe the person that moved Gertrude Warner (actor) to Gertrude Warner (actress) is one of those people. Rest assured, I will stay on this issue, and get it resolved. I have nothing but time on my hands. BTW, I still get a smile and a spot in my happy place, when I hear your mom's name in the credits. - Update since writing above, I went to the IRC channel and asked an administrator about it, and came up with the solution to drop the title, and let your mom have Gertrude Warner all to herself. - For the record, Varlaam (who moved the article to 'actress') is not an administrator, but I'm willing to grant that he had the best of intentions in doing so. Your late mother's opinion re: the words 'actor' and 'actress' is still in the minority, and if it hadn't been Varlaam it would have been someone else who thought they were "correcting an error". That's why I didn't simply move it back to "(actor)" -- it wouldn't have stuck. DS (talk) 11:55, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- For the record, it is not just my mother's, it is *not* a minority opinion among actors, especially among female actors, who do not wish to be perceived in a different (perhaps "lower"-?) category or class of actor. If we could poll, for example, actors such as Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, Kate Hepburn, Meryl Streep, others, who all listed or list their occupations as "actor" or acting teachers, such as Uta Hagen and others who teach acting - since no one in the world teaches "actressing" - any reference to or question about a "minority opinion" would be put to bed. - In any case, the article title is now free of gender bias. The text of the article last time I checked used "actor" as well. Since most editors act under an assumption of good faith, seeing your note in the talk page about the term should hopefully keep any well intentioned editor from changing it. However, Doug, I do suggest you put her article on your "watch list" and any time it is edited it will show up on your "watch list" and you can revert edits that disrupt the integrity of the article. To do so, you probably click the star at the top of any article. (the reason I say it hesitatingly is I have my wikipedia view different than standard). The WP article Actor quotes some statistics on the use of Actor/Actress that may be interested to those in this discussion. I tend to treat words as tools for understanding, and not get too attached to certain one. Which is why in October when I saw it went from actor (as I had installed it) to actress, I let it be for others to address. However, believing as I do in the importance of Legacy and family, when I saw your objection, and your self admitted novice wikipedia status, I took up the cause on your behalf. DS and I discussed a fair solution for quite a while before landing on the current solution. I cannot help but address the actressing comment. Actoring is not exactly a household word either. The movement away from female version titles is ongoing. For example, watching old 50s and 60s what's my line, they even used the occupation Lady Barber. I have jabbered on long enough. Thanks, Kevin. I'm still a novice with Wikipedia – and I continue to change "actress" to "actor" because, for whatever reason, someone or something INCORRECTLY keeps changing it back. I hope this finds you doing well and doing good! dougfrank56 09:50, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
