Derrick Townsend (born August 26 1973 in Pontiac, Michigan) is an American citizen who currently works as a Quality Assurance professional for a large Pharmaceutical company.


Derrick attended school in Mt. Morris, MI, and later attained a bachelor of science degree at the University of Michigan. While in college, Derrick had the opportunity to assist with ecological research at Mammoth Cave National Park and Florida Caverns State Park. Derrick also had the opportunity to study coral reef ecology at the Bahamian Field Station on San Salvador, Bahamas. Following graduation, Derrick was hired as an adjunct faculty member at UM.


In 1997 Derrick began a Master of Science degree program at Western Michigan University where he studied the relationship between an elevated carbon dioxide atmosphere and the secondary chemistry of the Common Milkweed(Asclepias syriaca). Derrick also investigated the implications for the milkweed's well known herbivore, the Monarch Butterfly(Danaus plexippus)


Derrick was hired as a laboratory technician with his current employer in the fall of 1999.
