Boyan[edit]

Both sources are copy of each other. The first source from "purvite7.bg" [loose translation] cites Considers also that it comes from the ancient name "Bayan" - are known Bayan Khan, Bat-Bayan, Bayan I (562-602), the first Avar Khagan ruled Avarian-Bulgarian Union and the Slavs in Pannonia, while the second from "infopleven.com" cites Others believe that it comes from the Hun-Bulgarian name "Bayan" are known Bayan Khan, Bat-Bayan, Bayan I (562-602), first Avar Hagan ruled Avar-Bulgarian Union and the Slavs in Pannonia and others. Another theory is that the name comes from two languages: from proto language where the name is a military commander, and the Slavic word "Fear", and according your comment "but no mention of direct connection to the name in the source, it is just some kind of analogy", no, the Slavic word is mentioned in consideration to the name, and if is some kind of analogy which should be removed, then can't be double criteria by which is included alleged "military commander", which actually do not mean military commander yet a honorific title-name denoting "military commander". After reading it think that probably didn't explain my last thought very well, the Turkic-Mongolian name Bayan and its meaning are well confirmed, it was often held by khans/khagans, who as nomadic chieftains were also military commanders. Thus, they didn't had a name which was also a title, as they already had a title khan. It imples that a khan (in this case with name Bayan) is also a military commander, but with not separate meaning of the name or separate title.--Crovata (talk) 21:22, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
