Dear Sir: It may look suspicious to make recommendations on clothes dryers and washers, refrigerators, dishwashers, or consumer electronics, even if those recommendations are very generic and contextual, and involving energy-efficient products. But I should remember you that home appliances and electronics are responsible for more than 50% of electricity use and that buildings consume more than 70% of the world’s electricity and about 40% of the natural gas (more than the industry and the transportation sector). In other words, and since electricity comes mostly from coal, oil, and natural gas: our buildings and our appliances are the main drivers of climate change. On the other hand the sources that I have mentioned are non-profit organizations, committed with energy savings. TopTenUSA and TopTenEu are part of the TopTen.info organization - an independent international program to create a dynamic benchmark for the most energy efficient products (I do hope that the next time you buy an appliance you prefer a TopTen machine). House-energy is also a non-profit organization promoting energy efficiency (take a look at the many dozens of its Infographics on the issue of zero energy buildings, climate change or home efficient appliances). And the same goes with the other sites I have mentioned: Energy.gov. EIA, Toolbase, EIA, Energy Star, GreenBuildingAdvisor … Yes. I am committed with energy efficiency and green building programs and I do believe that we are wrecking the climate and compromising the future of our children, and that the most important thing that we can do to prevent it is by promoting energy efficiency awareness. But maybe you think I am wrong, and that I should not have mentioned the sites I did – instead of the many hundreds of uncommitted sites and people that are promoting irresponsible energy consumption. In this case you are right: I am a spammer. Go ahead. Close my account. I should be banned. E. Reisinho.
