[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "ElectricTP", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because Promotional username. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:04, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. User:Oshwah (talk) 00:24, 17 August 2017 (UTC)ElectricTP (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I want to apologize because I am new to this and didn't read close enough when I created this username in response my other username "TParsonsElec" being blocked. My assumption was that the username TParsonsElec flat out failed to meet the guidelines because of its relation to an organization, leading me to create ElectricTP, which seemed much more ambiguous. I didn't consider the possibility that creating duplicate accounts in a short period of time would lead to the account being blocked, and this is a failure on my part. I am hoping to appeal the block on ElectricTP for one simple reason: the company I work for is attempting to create a Wikipedia entry - NOT an advertisement, but a well sourced and objective entry - but we were concerned that someone may edit our page after it goes live, and wanted to be aware. The reason I created this (these) account(s) was so that I could set up an alert to be notified whenever changes are made, and review them. There is also a very specific "Parsons.Electric" account that was created for this purpose as well by our marketing team, ostensibly separate from this account, but likely from the same server address. If I am able to keep this account because the username is more ambiguous, then I would hope the other account "TParsonsElec" could be removed entirely. If my reason for wishing to set up this account is not valid - being able to monitor my employer's wikipedia page edits - then I would understand that reasoning as well, and would ask for both accounts to be removed, if possible.
Decline reason:
There are several issues here. First of all, you should take a look at the Terms of Use and make sure you comply with the disclosure requirements explained at WP:PAID. Secondly, Wikipedia does not allow shared accounts; only one person may have access to an account, and the username must not imply shared use. Neither "TParsonsElec", "ElectricTP" nor "Parsons.Electric" meet that standard. You should either make use of Special:GlobalRenameRequest to request a change in username or create a new account with an unambigously individual username. If you want your username to be associated with your company, a username such as "John at Parsons Electric" would be acceptable. Similarly, every member of the marketing team that wants to edit Wikipedia should create an account of their own. Thirdly, you will not have any special veto powers over your company's article; other people will edit the article, and our guideline on conflicts of interest suggests that you don't edit the page yourself but rather propose changes on the article's talk page and leave the implementation to uninvolved editors. This goes doubly for the marketing team, of course. Finally, the "sockpuppetry" aspect of this block was a mistake by the blocking admin that has been corrected; you are free to create a new account with an acceptable username if you so choose. This username unfortunately is not acceptable either. Huon (talk) 23:03, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
