Thanks for your post

Thanks for your question at the help desk, and we very much appreciate that you're willing to keep an eye on content here at Wikipedia ... we want the content to be accurate. A couple of things: please choose another username by clicking on the "create a new account" link above, a name that reflects you rather than your day job, and also please read WP:WHYNOT the link Orangemike gives below. Bottom line: it may be better to add requests to the talk pages of articles about your company, giving us reliable, secondary sources that back up your information, rather than editing articles about your company directly ... although if you ever see something that's really wrong, please do let us know right away. Thanks. - Dank (push to talk) 15:57, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to suggest that you read this article: Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance. I'm afraid we tend to be rather harsh here about edits that violate COI principles, since corporate editors have a long history of reflecting corporate interests rather than a quest for truth. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:46, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, ours is not a quest for Truth, but Verifiability. Which doesn't change your advice, but might help explain why we appear less than open to editors with access to the Truth.--SPhilbrickT 16:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My guess is that the response at the help desk surprised you but...

Please read WP:COI. While it may seem odd that you would be discouraged from contributing to an article when you probably know more than any other editor, it actually makes sense in the context of the Wikipedia goals. All is not lost, though, you are permitted, even encouraged, to post information to the related Talk Page, suggesting corrections, addition, or relevant sources, but other, uninvolved editors should make the changes.--SPhilbrickT 16:47, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
