Portuguese personal infinitive[edit]

It is true that the personal infinitive is a rather confusing subject; I sympathize with your difficulty here. You can replace É necessário termos paciência. by É necessário que tenhamos paciência.. Realize that you could replace the personal infinitive only by the present subjunctive in this case. In the case of the sentence Era necessário termos paciência., you could replace it only by Era necessário que tivéssemos paciência. (imperfect subjunctive).

In the article, I made a mistake: I should have written only "subjunctive" instead of "imperfect subjunctive". I have fixed that. Sorry for the problem, I have some difficulty with grammar terminology.

Although I can understand Spanish quite well, I am not proficient in actively communicating in Spanish, so I have a doubt: could I say "La recepcionista nos pidió (para) que esperásemos." instead of "La recepcionista nos pidió (para) que esperáramos."?

If you find other ways to improve the section, feel free to do so. Kind regards. --Antonielly (talk) 12:51, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
