Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. This is a message to let you know that your username, "Folly Farm Official", may not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Please note that the following types of usernames are prohibited:

  • Promotional usernames: Those that match the name of a company, organization, group, website or product (e.g. "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", "Foobar Museum of Art"). However, you are allowed to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally (e.g. "Jack Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "FoobarFan87").
  • Usernames implying shared use: Those that directly imply shared access between people (e.g. "Jack and Jill's Account"), or match names of posts within groups or organizations (e.g. "Secretary of the XY Foundation").
  • Misleading usernames: Those that contain suffixes like "bot" or "script" and imply an account is that of an automated bot when it is not, or titles like "admin" or "sysop" (implying a position of authority), or match names of living people that you are not, such as famous living people. If you are a famous person editing under your real name and your account is blocked from editing, please note that this is not to discourage you from editing, but rather to prevent any potentially damaging impersonation of you.
  • Offensive and disruptive usernames: Those that contain words or phrases that are likely to offend other contributors, directly threaten or attack another person or some entity, contain contentious material about living persons, or otherwise imply you do not intend to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia (e.g. "JohnIsAJerk", "WannabeWikipediaVandal").

For more information, see Wikipedia's username policy.

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, website, person or other entity, nor do we tolerate any other 'bad faith' editing such as trolling or other disruptive behavior, regardless of your username. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. If you do not understand which part of the policy your username may be violating, please don't hesitate to ask. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Greyjoy talk 09:58, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 10:50, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I had already requested a change of username before being blocked, I also wasn't aware you couldn't make edits to your own company page. How would I go about suggesting edits to the page to a) include more current non-spammy information of the type that is already there (new enclosures, awards) and b) remove animals that are listed that we no longer have at the zoo to avoid disappointment? Thank you

Accept reason:

As you recognized it is inappropriate for you to directly edit about your company, and are willing to work within Wikipedia guidelines in editing about it, I am accepting this request. 331dot (talk) 19:06, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • To request changes to articles that are about or involve your company, you are welcome to make edit requests on article talk pages.(click that link for more information). You should read the conflict of interest policy and the paid editing policy if you haven't already, and be prepared to make the appropriate declarations(the latter policy is required by Wikipedia's Terms of Use if you are a paid editor or editing for your company) Since you already seem to have indicated that you won't directly edit about your company, I would be willing to consider unblocking you if you agree to make edit requests in articles related to your conflict of interest, comply with the policies I have indicated, and if Alexf has no other concerns. 331dot (talk) 07:44, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot: Based on what I read, I have no other concerns. -- Alexf(talk) 10:26, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you 331dot. No I won't be making further edits to my own page. I'd just like to suggest some edits going forward and will be sure to declare that I work for the company. I have now read the conflict of interest and paid editing policy. Sorry again, this is all new to me. Thanks Zoe wright (talk) 08:01, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I am unblocking you per your comments here. Please remember to use edit requests(click for more information) on article talk pages to ask for changes to articles in the area of your COI, as well as to formally comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either me or post at the Teahouse, an area for new users to ask questions. 331dot (talk) 19:06, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
