Your Autobiography[edit]
Hi there Fred,
I stumbled upon your userpage and talk page here because Wikipedia flagged it for possible self-promotion. That didn't seem to be the case--your page is appropriately self-expressive as any user page should be. as In any case, I then found my way to your website and am in the middle of reading your autobiography. I really must say, you know how to grab a reader in!:
On a daily walk, I pointed to a man on crutches and said: “Mommy, that man is broken.” She responded: “That man is a creation of God who loves him as much as he loves you.” I won’t be giving my mother a great deal of praise in this tome. But as a foundational point in life, this did set me on firm ground. How does a full-size upright piano find its way to a 5th story apartment? I never questioned it. But I did climb it. What’s worse, it was located next to an oftopen window without a screen. That was called ‘air conditioning’ in the day. Anyway, I would climb up the piano, perch myself on the windowsill, wave and offer a bright “Hi!” to the masses below. Some would return the greeting. Some would ignore the bother from above. Yet others would gasp. Mom was among the latter. Often.
That made me smile!
I'm also combing through your chapter on personal beliefs (starting from 107), and as a believer in Christ myself, I think there is plenty of value to be found in organized religion. Indeed MANY sects of Christianity are unfortunately built on hatred, vindication, revenge (to your point on Jerry Falwell's comments post-9/11 and Pat Robertson's reply). But many are foundationally built on what Jesus instituted in the Bible--communion with Him through love and being fully enjoined with the Holy Spirit (among many other necessary benefits). That would be the main point of disagreement between the both of us. That, and the fact that there is a chance to accept Christ after our time on earth is over. For those who were not exposed to Christ on earth, only God can and should pontificate on how they must be judged, but all others have, by definition, denied Him or willfully refused to listen. The Bible is the best-selling book in history, so it's not quite easy to avoid it!
According to Guinness World Records as of 1995, the Bible is the best selling book of all time with an estimated 5 billion copies sold and distributed.
