Conflict of Interest[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Global Action Plan International, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Gap International Sweden", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Please be advised that the article has also been flagged for possible speedy deletion as advertising. Thank you. --NickContact/Contribs 23:51, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the article for promotionalism. Advocacy is regarded here as promotionalism, however worthy the cause. There may however be potential for an article-- here's how to do it:

First of all, a Wikipedia article needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. If you have such sources, it may be possible to rewrite the article; otherwise, it will not yet be possible to write an acceptable article.

A Wikipedia article needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release--don't praise the organization or person, say what they do. Don't talk about the overall importance of the subject--talk about what they have accomplished. Don't include material that would better belong in an advertisement or a web page, Remember not to copy from a web site, even your own -- first it's a copyright violation, but, even if you own the copyright and are willing to give us permission according to WP:DCM (permission that irrevocably gives everyone in the world the right to copy, reuse, and modify the material) , the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable. (Thus, there is generally no purpose in giving permission; it is better to rewrite.)

Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to prospective supporters--that sort of content is considered promotional.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. And keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive.

If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity, and for the presence of sources that show notability. The best way of rewriting is to use the WP:Article Wizard, which will guide you towards an acceptable article if one is possible. DGG ( talk ) 00:28, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Marilyn Mehlmann, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the page be "userfied" or emailed to you. DGG ( talk ) 00:31, 18 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

similarly here. She probably is notable, but you need to rewrite the article. Be careful about copyvio. Be careful to state her major accomplishments in neutral language, "Having the passion for empowering and supporting people and groups to acquire skills, knowledge and responsibilities beyond their immediate horizons" is not neutral language. The reader will be able to tell from the prizes and publications that she's important. And there must be good references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases.
Be careful about the books. List only the actual full books she has written; articles and book chapters are not books; you can include them, but specify . State the publisher in full, and include the isbn -- you can get this from any library catalog, or WorldCat. Books published by her own organization do not count towards notability as an author, and the reader needs to know this. You can include the Swedish ones also--the English language WP covers the world. What would be very helpful is to include references to any reviews of her books that have been published (not just posted on Amazon or other websites)
Organize the article so there is a brief lead paragraph giving the context of her importance. Then give her biography, including the basics, where & when she was born, & where educated. When did she move from England to Sweden? Then a section on her career--or one on her career as a management consult and one as an environmental activist, if the two can be separated. User her full name once, and afterwards just her last name. We are an encyclopedia, and we're not going to call her Marilyn. Does she have any academic affiliations?
I'm not trying to discourage you, but encourage you to do this right: I think that if possible we should have both articles, but there is often a question when someone's main work is associated with an organization whether one strong article is better. Be very careful about Close paraphrase If there is any , rewrite that part from scratch, changing not just the words, but the arrangement into sentences and the sequence of ideas.
