June 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Sarahj2107. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Lysol because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Your edits also removed a lot of references and sourced content. Sarahj2107 (talk) 15:50, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Lysol. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Hi Sarahj2107, this Wikipedia page has incorrect information, for example references 1 and 2 are not accurate nor do the links go to accurate sites. Due to this, the first paragraph is completely false. Also notably, the references are widely outdated therefore the information included on this page is outdated. My goal is to put non-biased information on this page inclusive of the type of the products this company offers (which is on many other brand pages) that is accurate fro 2013. The picture is also non-representative of what Lysol is so I updated the image to include a better picture of all of Lysol products. My point being: someone going to this page will not get a truthful, full picture of what Lysol is. I would like to try editing this page one more time if you would allow me to. I can plan to do this tomorrow, Friday, 6/20, and you can let me know if it sounds too promotional -- which is not the purpose of this revision. Thank you for your time Sara. OK, but please remember that this is an encyclopedia and the aim is to give an accurate and reliable summary of the topic, not a full brief in the same way the company website would have. My main concern is the list of products with external links to the company websites, this is discouraged (see WP:external links). There should only be one link to the company site at the bottom in the external links section. Use of the registered trademark symbol is also not allowed (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks). Lastly, the removal of the LD50 data and toxicity to fish makes it look like you are not editing from a neutral point of view. If you want you could move it from the lead to further down the article, but as it has a working reliable source it should not be removed without discussion on the article talk page first so community consensus can be reached. This information is oh-so-helpful, Saraj2107. Thank you! The rules/regulations of Wikipedia can be a bit difficult to navigate so I appreciate the extra guidance. These are completely fair rules and I will update the site accordingly. Thanks again! User:Genuine500 16:44, 10 July 2013.
Thanks for understanding. You're recent edit looks fine, I just added one ref back in that you must have missed. If you have any more information about the product that you could reference with reliable secondary sources to expand the article, it would be great. If you need any more help with anything just let me know. Sarahj2107 (talk) 21:43, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Saraj2107. Let me look into more secondary sources. Appreciate it!

Hi Saraj2107 - we wanted to remove the Lysol product on shelf image from the article and use the product lineup instead. I don't think we have the privileges to do this. We just feel the product lineup is more representative of the latest product offerings. Are you able to help us with this change? Thanks!

I see that you uploaded the lineup picture and said you own the copyrights, if this is correct then there is no problem using it. However, as it's a commercial product you might have to prove you own the rights if someone questions it, which you can do by emailing "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org". I don't think it would qualify for fair use licensing as the other image is available and free to use. Image copyrights is kind of complex and I don't know a lot about it but Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission have more information. I have to say though, the shelf image looks pretty bad and a suitably licensed replacement would be a big improvement to the article. The lineup picture can be left in the article for now and I will remove the shelf one.Sarahj2107 (talk) 20:54, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
