Promotional material
[edit]Hello, I'm Yosemiter. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Yosemiter (talk) 17:37, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
Conflict of Interest
[edit]Hello, Gpalecco. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.
The above is for your own information in that if you are indeed Mr. Gene Palecco, the org president and association commissioner, as your user name implies, then you must be very careful about what you add to Wikipedia. As you are closely involved to the subject you edited, you may be either biased (as wikipedia is not a free means of promotion and there are potential legal issues for why it is not allowed) or have insider information taht can not be substantiated from independent or reliable sources (which also implies a bias). However, if you see where uncontroversial corrections need to be made (as you did with updating the list of members), then by all means do we look forward to your edits.
On another note, copying language verabatim from any medium is considered plagiarism and is against the rules, even if you are doing so from your own website to wikipedia (as you do not own wikipedia, you are putting into a public space and violating copyright law).
