November 2011[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I edit Wikipedia too, under the username Calabe1992. I noticed you recently removed some content from an article without explaining why. In the future, it would be really helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page. Wikipedia is written by people like you and me, and we care a lot about the quality of the encyclopedia. Please help us make it better! Thanks, Calabe1992 16:18, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the redirect will leave the article blank, which is not acceptable. Calabe1992 16:19, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sakis Gouzonis[edit]

Please refrain from from taking out the redirect of "Sakis" from Sakis Rouvas again. He is the only one of the people with that name to be widely recognized by first name only and the only one to have actually released albums and singles by first name as well. 99.9% of Greek public will think of Rouvas when someone says "Sakis" and it can be assumed that many readers, especially from abroad will search up only the first name. In his article there is a source about the prominence of the mononym and that no other celebrity originally using both first and last name gained mononymous fame. A good example is if you type "Elvis" it will automatically take you to Presley's page, even though there are many people with that name, even a quite notable musician, Elvis Costello, since the most famous/notable person gets the redirect. You need a source about Gouzonis, fan references don't count, as he has never released albums under his first name. I also decided to put up a tag on the article because the artist does not seem to meet the general notability guideline for music in its current state, such as being signed to a major label or prominent indie label, albums or singles that charted nationally, major awards (not random competitions of which there are thousands) or significant coverage in media (most media mentions seem to be reprints of artist's official site) etc. Internet popularity does not mean notability on wikipedia; lots of indie artists use MySpace for music sharing but most professional musicians haven't relied on it in years. Without more sources and info it can be deleted at any time by anyone.GreekStar12 (talk) 04:07, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't try to start edit wars with me, I am trying to help you. Questioning the notability of Rouvas is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard and is just a foolish and ignorant attempt at getting back at me for tagging your article instead of actually trying to improve it. Rouvas has a 20+ year career and is frequently cited by many professional studies to be considered the most famous (known by even the most ignorant in Greece and a respectable amount abroad), most photographed, highest grossing, most culturally influential, and most attractive Greek celebrity and one of the most famous Greeks residing nationally abroad; Apart from being signed to a major label and charting in national charts, which is a must for musical notability, he has established and popularized entire music genres (including bringing electronic music into the mainstream btw), vocal styles, fashions, and revolutionized the standards of the Greek music industry by westernizing it and reforming music videos and stage into an art form. He lead entire musical movements and represented a whole generational counterculture, provoked never before seen or repeated mass hysteria, influenced scores of artists, has received heavy media coverage and academic analysis (there's not a single day he's not in a magazine, newspaper, tv report) is the most successful performer of non-laiko or entehno styles, holds sales and chart records, and has sold two million albums. Not to mention he is probably the most awarded entertainer ever in Greece, with major awards such as Arions, Pop Corns, VMAs, Status, MTV EMA, World Music Awards etc and was named "entertainer of the decade" and topped Forbes' list and has the largest following of a fanclub or Facebook or Twitter, is that notability enough for you? Even if he were not a musician, he would still have notability as an actor, presenter, athlete, or humanitarian. Who cares if he didn't win ESC? Neither did Vissi, Moushouri, Julio Iglesias, or Cliff Richards, should we delete their articles too? Placing in such a notable contest (which has an entire wikiproject dedicated to it is enough to establish notability. He would also have enough notability just from his career abroad because he was signed to a major label (Universal France) and charted on the national singles and albums charts of France, Belgium, Russia, Sweden etc. I must say I've been on Wiki a long time and never heard such a strange argument.
So, I'm sorry, but how does this other Sakis compare? The football player, Boulas, and Tolis (who is not even known in Greece) have never been known mononymously, end of story. The only Greek celebrities with mononymous fame are the ones who chose to promote themselves that way from the beginning (Paschalis, Elpida, Alexia, Manto, Kalomira) as the source, which is deemed reliable says. Even if you don't trust it at least there is a source, where is your source for Gouzonis? Another thing is that Wikipedia is about verifiability not truth. I can find hundreds of articles in Greek that refer to Rouvas as "Sakis" in latin letters and there is no doubt he is the most famous Sakis and the term is most widely used for him, meaning he gets the redirect. As for whether he has released albums and singles by first name only, that can be proven just by looking at the cover art for records like Disco Girl, Ola Kala (song), and Parafora and one Google search for "Sakis" and you will see who comes up. Regardless if he is not as famous as Elvis, the policy is still the same, and he has been known by the mononym longer. Gouzonis may be referred to by first name by fans but he is not widely known like that as he is not even known to most Greeks. At the current state, his article does not meet any of the criteria Wikipedia:Notability (music), such as being signed to a major label, national charting information, significant awards and projects etc. Contests directed to newcomers, internet audiences, and niche music are not considered major, not my opinion - just policy. And the only sources on him are a blog (which is discouraged) and only reprints info found on his site. I see the notability of this artist has come into question before. You cannot take out the tag yourself, a discussion with a consensus must be conducted. Failure to do so may result in a block. I suggest you read more on policy before making any further edits. Hopefully you can find more information, but it doesn't seem that the recordings will ever be notable. I get the feeling you either are or are associated with this artist; please note that Wikipedia is not a place for promotion of indie artists and people popular on the internet. Also what is your relation to the user Greekmusicpower? You have similar names and edits and sock puppetry can result in a permanent block.GreekStar12 (talk) 21:12, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
