Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first pages you edited was Pierre Krähenbühl, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that page.

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date.

If you've had a new article rejected or deleted, new article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can also ask for help at the TEAHOUSE and on IRC chatAgain, welcome! -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:03, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:04, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there,
I would gladly add my identity after ICRC Official if this would not entail a high risk of harassment. As a neutral humanitarian organization, we are the constant target of haters and MDH experts who would like us to take sides or just bluntly lie about our actions to make their own point. I guarantee you that the modifications brought are just a factual update and you can check that previous contributions have not been altered. ICRC Official (talk) 08:48, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All the more reason to follow the instructions in the block notice to choose a new user name. Thanks -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 13:05, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Deepfriedokra,
We've been in touch with the French and German admins and after some explanation, they are fine with our official account. We are transparent in our intent (to update facts) and respectful of former contributions (even those controversial have not been altered).
Here why I am reluctant to modify the username: a) harassment is a real issue and some of my colleagues have experienced on social the wrath of the haters. No thanks; and b) as a global organization we communicate in several languages so multiplying accounts would complicate things needlessly.
I would like to assure you that we are not on Wikipedia to make propaganda (Red Cross is in essence neutral). We just want to update facts when necessary and have a voice when we deem that the readers deserve a more balanced and complete picture of the situation.
If there is anything else I can do or you would like to know, please flag.
Sincerely ICRC Official (talk) 15:56, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question for administrator

[edit]
<Following my latest message (no response so far) explaining why we would enjoy keeping the name of the account as it is, could you unblock our editing rights? We have been given you guarantees that our edits are done in line with Wikipedia requirements, and it is clearly stated in the profile that I work for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Again, we have not modified previous content from private contributors. The French and German administrators have agreed on this (all details in the thread) and we would naturally expect some consistency in all languages. For us, it is important that the profiles of our senior management are up to date when they take or leave positions. We do not take sides or fuel controversies, just remain factual.
Hope this helps.> ICRC Official (talk) 10:15, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Our username policy differs from other language Wikipedias. We do not permit group/business/organization accounts names, or anything that suggests multiple people have access to this account(only one person should have exclusive access to this account, and access may not be shared). I know business accounts are permitted and even encouraged on other language Wikipedias, but not here. If you don't want to rename this account, that's fine- you will just need to create a personal account for yourself. You don't need to use your real name or provide personal information. Once you have settled this issue, you will need to read WP:COI and WP:PAID(a terms of use requirement). 331dot (talk) 10:31, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
