Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Sterling_Office.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:59, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the license tag (I'm not sure which you picked) and just left the "fair-use-in" thing. The rationale seems fine to me (even if someone goes and photographs the building, it will still include the logo, so...). I think the correct choice on the drop-down list for images which prominently include a logo would be "Fair use logo". As regards releases allowing the images to be used on Wikipedia, unfortunately we can't use those. The release would need to be under a free license (creative commons or GFDL). If you can get permission for this image to be used under a free license, the OTRS system can make the appropriate changes. Please let me know if you have any further questions on this, or anything else for that matter. Very best regards, Angus McLellan (Talk) 22:41, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help Angus. I assume that the license tag change you made will result in the image remaining on the Sterling Management page. Is this correct?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sterling Office.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sterling Office.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:53, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sterling Management Systems[edit]

I suggest we have a mediation on the Sterling Management Systems article as it looks like it could go into an edit war. Do you accept mediation?--Fahrenheit451 22:57, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I felt that discussion was needed on changes, not mediation. (see my last message to you on the Sterling talk page) I am admittedly new at this game and I'm not sure what an edit war is but it doesn't sound like fun. If you feel mediation would be useful in this instance I will defer to your judgment in the matter. --Ibeme 08:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Informal mediation is a discussion between disagreeing parties with the presence of an impartial third party. The process is voluntary. I have found it to be successful in every instance.--Fahrenheit451 16:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fahrenheit451 thanks for the clarification and help. Are you sure we disagree? You may be surprised - but we'll find out in mediation. --Ibeme 05:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Sterling Office.jpg[edit]

I took a look at Image:Sterling Office.jpg and read your text regarding permission of use. I'm a little concerned that it is not properly licensed. Where do you actually have this image from exactly ? From this website or elsewhere ?-- Stan talk 21:13, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stan, you are perceptive! After a bunch of challenges on licensing, etc, that nearly drove me round the bend the image that I finally found and uplaoded is the one that Sterling put up on Google Maps; (Just search for Sterling management Systems in Google Maps and you will see it.) I figured it was public domain for sure and if Mr. Wison did not come through with an okay to use, (which he did) I really didn't need it anyway. I did crop the shot to get to a more square format - better suited to the thumbnail presentation in the article. I hope this answers your question and all is okay. If not, please let me know what I need to do to fix it. --Ibeme 22:30, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't find it on google images. However I asked because you stated on the image page that it is from the official website and the conversation between you and Wilson also points to the image on the official website. But the image there is still under copyright from SMS. It is also not the same image like the one you discussed with Wilson.(well its from the same photograph but its manipulated;statue in front is missing on the original one) Thats why I'm seriously worried. You really need to clarify it on the image page otherwise I will ask for deletion.(the best would be to point to the source where you have it from and which states that it is released into public domain or at least make it more clear). Sorry for making trouble on this but the Copyright issue is too serious for WP. And not this particular image but the original photograph must be under a free license I think. BTW. I like the image and it's a gain for the article :),please don't take it personal. -- Stan talk 23:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Stan, I do not take it personally, I appreciate the help and guidence. The exact url for the picture is: http://base.googlehosted.com/base_media?q=LBC-3757102-1960839070&size=1&hl=en Mere motals access this picture by going to Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q= and searching for Sterling Management Systems - the correct address in 350 W. Arden Ave, Glendale, CA 91203. I will find my way back to the image page and change the URL for this image. Note: It still has Mr. Wilson's permision to use...

Sterling Management Systems[edit]

Quick question: are you an employee and/or contractor for Sterling Management Systems? Raymond Hill 19:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My resume is (maybe foolishly) on my user page, check it out. So much for anonymity eh? --Ibeme 15:05, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a non-answer. Yes or no will be appreciated (I am not asking for your identity). Raymond Hill (talk) 00:55, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see a selective summary of your work experience, but I do not see what is commonly considered to be a resume'. I have made a request of you on the main page of the mediation.--Fahrenheit451 15:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Valid question from Raymond Hill after all "coincidences".(same region like SMS,strange image upload,SPA see WP:SPA) you can of course stay anonymous but if you are connected to this company you should refrain from editing in future not make controversial edits in topics with a Conflict of interest but may contribute on talk pages. See WP:COI.-- Stan talk 17:11, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You uploaded, File:Sterling Office.jpg, where you either stated or implied that you had permission of a third party to upload it; or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request.

Unless there's some record of that permission, it's harder to confirm if any given permission is genuine. Wikipedia currently needs the permission to be explicitly proven at the time of upload, and recorded in the OTRS permission queue, for this reason.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm permissions you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally".

If permission is not confirmed, and recorded as detailed above, the media may have to be removed so that Wikipedia stays in compliance with copyright law and policy in some jurisdictions.
