I thought Wikipedia was supposed to be based on "truth," not what one wants to be the truth. Intelius is a website that accesses public information (from birth certificates to driving records), and as such it is more reliable than a bio from the NY Times. It lists Delaney as 49 years old, and if you pay the fee to see her actual birthdate, it is listed as 11/29/1958. This is based on OFFICIAL sources, not "original research." In short, this is the truth. She is 49, born in 1958, and she looks fantastic for her age. I don't understand your need to perpetuate false information.

Arrest information[edit]

Hi, you do seem very interested in this article, which is fine. However your edits there also seem problematic and maybe violating policies on biographies of living people. As a suggestion, consider posting to that talk page first and concisely stating what text you think should be added and provide reliable sources to support anything that seems controversial. As for causing less headaches for "all concerned," the only thing I notice is that one particular poster can't stand to see anything he doesn't like posted about Kim Delaney. Actually you're a bit off the mark there. That one poster has been correctly removing material which has been violating BLP policy. In part this policy states, "Wikipedia articles can affect real people's lives. This gives us an ethical and legal responsibility. Biographical material must be written with the greatest care and attention to verifiability, neutrality and avoiding original research, particularly if it is contentious." Insinuating someone lies about their age or is a drunk driver is problematic, if it is reliably sourced and written neutrally then it should be fine. Banjeboi 23:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kim Delaney was born in 1958, period. All PRIMARY sources (birth certificate, driving record) show that age at every public records search site. But since one particular poster seems to pitch a hissy fit when this fact is pointed out, I've given up on trying to make sure wikipedia has accurate information about her birthdate. Let him live in his fantasy world. As for the drunk driving stuff...the police reports make it clear she was likely drunk driving, and her own son said later in court she had tried to pick him up on another occasion drunk, embarrassing him. NONE of this is unsubstantiated, but I've made sure to only include a few brief sentences about it from very reliable sources. BTW, the idea that thesmokinggun is not a reliable source (according to this particular poster) is ludicrous. They actually post pictures of the original arrest documents, and are considered a reliable source by all major newspapers, including the NY Times and the LA Times. What's particularly ironic is that Delaney actually successfully sought treatment for her alcohol addiction at Promises rehab in Malibu, and is said to be fine now, but once again, that particular user didn't like the source I used, so I edited that out. I'm not a specialist in primary sources so I don't have any strong opinions on that. You could ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard and see if using a birth certificate, or whatever they have, posted by The Smoking Gun is considered reliable given the NYTimes, etc. If not, why not and If it is ok how should the information be reconciled? So you see, Kim Delaney is more than just an actress. She is an Icon of Daytime Drama. Yes, her encyclopedia entry should be honest and factual, but we can also be sensitive to the fact that she has struggled throughout her life, and has enriched so many of us through her performance on as Jenny on All My Children. I know you'll just see me as a silly fan, but I just want a good bio that covers the facts without resorting to all that awful tabloid stuff. I hope we can work together collegially. Thanks for the clips, they brought back memories, that's for sure. I actually continued to watch AMC until 1992. Laurence Lau left in 1986, and they briefly recast Greg with Jack Armstrong, who was pretty terrible (he only lasted a few months, and then Enid mentioned off-handedly one day that he had moved away...so Greg just sort of faded off-screen). BTW, Jesse was killed off in 1988 by "scab" writers during the writer's strike that year; Agnes Nixon apparently was NOT happy about that, lol. (Darnell Williams wanted to leave, but she said she would have preferred a "presumed" death rather than a real one...although since they resurrected Jesse this year apparently, anyway, I guess it didn't matter). BTW, in a recent TV Guide article: http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV-Show-Blog/Tv-Previews/Army-Wives-Kim/800042662 , Kim Delaney said she'd be glad to bring Jenny back from the dead somehow at some point...but I don't know...it's been almost 25 years...sad as it was, it almost feels best left to good memories (also, Opal isn't played by Dorothy Lyman, anymore). What do you think? Would you want them to resurrect her with some crazy story about Enid faking her death or something? That's a hard question. I remember the Kitty/Kelly storyline. When Kitty died on the show in the 70s, viewers were outraged; eventually her evil twin Kelly showed up and seduced Linc, who was still mourning Kitty. But that was all over a matter of months, not 25 years. So much has changed, and the show seems so much more youth oriented than it was when I watched it (though young love was always an important element, they had a lot of older plots to balance things). If Jenny did come back, in whatever form, and especially if they got her together with the original Greg (I just love Laurence Lau. and he deserves a daytime Emmy for that grave speech clip), I would definitely find a way to watch it again. But you may be right, and too much time has passed. Jenny and Greg were pure magic, and I don't know if that magic could be recreated. What I would like most would be to see ABC make those original storylines available for download, so I could revisit the entire storyline. That was AMC's best period, in my opinion, even better than when Phil and Tara were on it. I watch As The World Turns now, though we are approximately a year or so behind the States and don't watch it as religiously as I watched AMC.

Thanks for understanding my reaction to Kim's page. I've been going through a rough time in the last month or so, and probably didn't handle our conflict as well as I could have.
