Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Jessrojas, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Adam and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.
I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. Jessica--You are doing great! Keep it up!!
[edit]Dear Jessica,
I see that you have finished 3/6 trainings so far. You are almost with us in the training. You just have one to finish this week! (yeah!!)
I also see that you played around in the sandbox, and learned how to reply in the talk section. Nice. Now you should try to get your hands dirty a little.
Please use the "Citation Hunt" tool to find a Wikipedia Article that is lacking a citation, then go find one and change the article with the new citation. I just did it, and it wasn't that hard (I promise!) We will be playing with Wikipedia this week, so try to get ahead of the game!
If you reply to me on this talk page before Feb 1, I will give you 5 bonus points on the Wikipedia project.
Sincerely, Mkassorla (talk) 18:05, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
Copyright violation
[edit]Hi. It looks like you've included some text copied from the source in this edit; I've removed it. Please remove any other cases of copying from other sources, if you've done similar things in other edits. You may wish to review the copyright and plagiarism training module.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- Please do not add content that has been previously published elsewhere. This was too closely copied from the source material and while you may have meant well, it is still seen as a copyright violation and plagiarism. This was previously removed by Sage (Wiki Ed) and from what I can see from that edit, it looks like you were re-adding the same material. You need to re-write content in your own words. I also wanted to note that you also added a large quote from this news article. While you can quote material, the quote must be attributed to the source and it must be properly cited. Quotes should also be short and should only be used to clarify or highlight a point. I didn't really see where it was necessary to use that quote in the article and I would say that it would be more appropriate to re-write the content in your own words. I would also leave off the list of the officers that were indicted in the sting operation. You only need to have an overview of the event in question and that much information can be seen as too detailed for Wikipedia's purpose. Also, per WP:BLPCRIME you should only list names if there has been a conviction. Even then, the people should only be named and listed if it the event was exceptionally major and they have specifically received a lot of media attention. Since it seems like the sting was the big focus and not the individual people per se, I don't know that there's really any need to do anything other than perhaps say that X amount of officers were indicted. I'm going to tag your professor Mkassorla in this.
- I would like for you to go back over the copyright and plagiarism training module before going any further. Do not re-add the copyrighted text to the article. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 05:46, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- I also have to warn you that repeatedly posting copyrighted text can lead to you getting blocked from editing, possibly permanently. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:00, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
Peer Review
[edit]Dear Jessica, You did a great job of searching for this project. Even though it was a little tough to find more information in the beginning, you were able to find useful information that can be used for the project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fkreyesus (talk • contribs) 13:13, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thaks Jonathan! The research was not as easy as I though it would be, but I managed to find what I felt was interesting and would fit weel into the article. Jessrojas (talk) 13:27, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Hey Jessica!
[edit]Thanks for the advice that you gave about incorporating the introduction with my article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fkreyesus (talk • contribs) 13:35, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
