Thanks re your first article
[edit]Hi Jmt007. Thank you for taking the trouble to write an article about Nicholas Beale. You may be wondering what on earth happened to it. Some editors feel very strongly that there should not be an article on this subject, so it was deleted within 5 minutes of creation. I explained to the Admin who did this that this deletion was against agreed wikipedia policy, and eventually he gave in but caused an immediate debate on your article without notifying you. Although the policy is that 5 days should be allowed for such debates, to give people time to improve the article, in fact only 1h15m elapsed before the article was deleted.
You will see from the discussion that there were two concerns raised:
- The article you wrote did not have sufficient references, and in particular not in the style we like in Wikipedia.
- The article did not explain why the subject was notable in the Wikipedian sense.
I don't either of these problems is insuperable, and if you and other editors are not too discouraged by the initial reaction then it would be possible to work to improve the article in your userspace and then submit it for reconsideration when there is a consensus amongst the editors who have worked on it that the article meets the objections raised. I can advise but it is better for obvious reasons if I don't make any contentious edits in an article about me.
What I think I can legitimately do is take the words you wrote (which were kindly emailed me by an admin) and add references, so as to give you something to work on, if you are still willing to do so, since your original work is now only available to admins. There would still be work required on this article to meet the notability guidelines of course.
I was somewhat discouraged by my first edits on Wikipedia as well, but (notwithstanding this strange behaviour) it is an important force for good in general and I do hope that you persevere and make hundreds, or even thousands, of useful edits over time. Best wishes NBeale (talk) 14:11, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
PS If you want to see your work you will need to go to the history tab because the admin who deleted it has also deleted it from here, without leaving any message that he has done so. If you are confused about how to do this do let me know. NBeale (talk) 16:40, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- here is a link to it. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:33, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you Jmt007 for posting this as a user page. I hope interested editors will be able to work together to make something that people are happy to have in the main space. I've put the wiki-formatting in as I think you intended. Best wishes. NBeale (talk) 20:36, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
re AfD for Nicholas Beale
