@Gawaon Hello Gawaon,
I was wondering why you kept on removing the edits I made about the Igbo people of Nigeria.
25% of ethnic Igbo people are found in Delta State and Rivers state respectively. Out of the 25 Local Government areas of Delta state, 9 Local Government Areas belongs to the ethnic Igbo people. The Local government areas are; Aniocha North, Aniocha south, Ika North East, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Oshimili West, Oshimili South and Ukwuani. These are well sourced information and are authentic.
In Rivers State, ethnic Igbo people can be found in Local Government Areas of Oyigbo, Etche, Omuma, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Obio Akpor, Port Harcourt, Opobo, Ikwerre, Emohua and Bonny.
Also, there are sizable population of the ethnic Igbo people in Benue State( the Izzi and Ezza people in Obi, Oju, and Ado Local Government Areas) and Cross River state( the Isobo people of Obubra Local Government Area) Johnmary22 (talk) 06:52, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please get yourself acquainted with the concept of WP:reliable sources (RS for short). If you think something is true, you nevertheless cannot just add it to an article, unless you also add a reference to an RS that confirms it. In your last edit, you linked to somebody's webpage, but that's not an RS because anyone can make a webpage and write anything on it. If you find an RS (official statistic, academic paper, or similar) that shows that we have missed mentioning major Igbo population figures from other states, feel free to add that information with a reference. But only then. Also, unless you're totally sure that they are no longer used, never remove existing references, as you did with your last edit. If you have an additional reference to add, just add it after the existing one(s). Gawaon (talk) 07:07, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gawaon
This Wikipedia link also highlighted the local government areas of Delta state where the ethnic Igbo people can be found: [1]
Also, the reference I added is a well researched academic data on the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA website and not just any web page.
The existing reference I removed was showing a "404" page not found error when clicked. Johnmary22 (talk) 07:24, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia link Delta State Johnmary22 (talk) 07:25, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you linked is from the private page of some (former, I suppose) lecturer at the University of California, Riverside, but that doesn't make it an RS. A serious academic publication goes through peer review or is published by an academic publisher. The page is also undated and seems to be quite old – none of the references given at the bottom is newer than 2010. The references at the bottom of the page are reliable sources, so you might be able to find there what you're looking for. But you would have to search for it yourself. Also note that some of them are quite old and might contain outdated information.
The existing reference works fine for me, no idea why it should give you a 404. The article Delta State doesn't contain any information indicating that Igbo people make up a major part of its population, as far as I can see. Gawaon (talk) 09:54, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gawaon if the reference link I shared contains an old information about a certain group of people, does that invalidate the identity of such people or decrease their number?
Igbo people in Delta state make up to 20% of the population likewise in Rivers state, the facts are out there for you to see. The indigenes of the 9 Local Government Areas in Delta State I mentioned previously are all native Igbo people and not emigrants. Same culture, tradition, nomenclature, language etc.
Kindly research more on these people instead of basing your point on reviewed literary articles. I have been to those places and we Nigerians know for sure that the Igbo people are a majority ethnic group in Delta State and Rivers state. Johnmary22 (talk) 15:57, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Delta State article has lists of local government areas with native Indigenous People of Igbo. I request you go through the list of Local Government Areas of Delta State and pay attention to each Local Government area. Johnmary22 (talk) 16:03, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You still need to find a reliable source. Personal experience doesn't matter, because it's unverifiable. I've seen the list in the Delta State article, but it doesn't give any numbers. Plus the list you mention is itself unsourced, so we couldn't use it even if it included numbers. Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source – you can't reference information in one article by pointing to another one. Gawaon (talk) 16:35, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the information you mention is as well-established as you say, finding an RS should be fairly easy – just look for recent government statistics or something similar. Gawaon (talk) 16:36, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
