Edit Summary[edit]

Information icon

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

If you are working in live Wikipedia or even on your own subpage, please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Hoopes (talk) 17:15, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on Thunderstone Additions[edit]

This is an excellent choice of topic. However, it's not clear that you first consulted the existing article Thunderstone (folklore) in order to see what is already available in Wikipedia. I think much of what you have written here could be used to enhance that article, but it's essential not to be redundant. Please have a look at that and consider where your additions--especially with good references--would be appropriate. I will make some edits to your content here and you can track on those using the "View history" tab. Hoopes (talk) 17:52, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I've made some corrections and additions to your text for the purposes of clarity and succinctness. For example, I've changed "the stones" to "thunderstones" and have tightened the language a bit. I have also added a hyperlink when it was appropriate. Overall, you have done a fine job here, especially with the consideration of some historical details and the use of reliable sources. Hoopes (talk) 18:34, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What you've done here is perfectly adequate. However, if you want to make some modifications, I think it's important to explain the difference between thunderstones that were naturally formed [[fulgite] and those that were human-modified artifacts of flint. Both of these were identified as thunderstones, but they have quite different origins. That said, I do not know if there are instances in which fulgite was worked into artifacts. It is theoretically possible, but I just don't know if it's ever been recognized or documented. With respect to your comment about thunderstones in South America, please note that there are vast regions of desert along the western coast of the continent, from Ecuador south through Chile. I just don't know if these are often subject to lightning-producing thunderstorms. To get fulgite, you need both sand and lightning. Hoopes (talk)

You may want to include a section that describes the three quite different types of thunderstones that you identify: 1) fulgite, 2) flint, and 3) fossils. Hoopes (talk)
