Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hey there, KingLeian! I'm glad you decided to register a new account here on Wikipedia. We're always looking for new editors to help improve the project, because believe me, there's always something to be done! Wikipedia often seems very large to newcomers (it did to me, at least), so I've put together this little guide to help you get started. I hope this helps, and as always, happy editing! Some Quick Tips

  • Don't be afraid to make mistakes - Be Bold! That's how things get done, and there is always someone around to help you out if you need it.
  • Remember to sign your posts on talk pages, like this one. You can click this button on your editing toolbar, or just type in four tildes (~~~~) That way, people know who they're talking to and who to go to if they have a question for you.
  • Take some time to read a few of the help files, especially if you're new to Wikimarkup. Knowing the basics can save a lot of time and frustration down the road. I've provided some of these pages, as well as some common policies, at right.
  • If you ever have a question, there are plenty of places to ask! You can come talk to me, add the code {{helpme|your question}} to your talk page here, post a question on the talk page of the article you have a question about, or post something on the Help Desk or Reference Desk.
  • Check out the ways to get involved below - each of these suggestions are good ways for a new editor to get involved in the Wikipedia project.
  • Most importantly, get out there and edit! Thanks again for signing on!

looking for adoption by another wikipedian? --KingLeian (talk) 05:15, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There you go - that little blue/green box will let adopters know you're looking for someone, although it may take a few days for them to make an offer. In the meantime, the big box I provided above it should help you to get started, and of course you're more than welcome to keep asking questions this way. Welcome to Wikipedia! Requesting articles

[edit]

You can request an article at WP:RA. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't really have any, no - you might want to look through WP:1ST, though. It'll give you some instructions on how to proceed and maybe some ideas. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:57, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Writing new articles

[edit]

I must warn you in advance that writing new articles is the hardest thing to do on Wikipedia because it encompasses pretty much the entire skill set a good editor has. That said, I want to help new editors in this particular field and want to test a course I'm trying to set up for this very purpose, so if you're interested, please leave a note on my talk/discussion page and let me know what topics interest you and what potential articles you'd like to write. - Mgm|(talk) 12:27, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  1. pick one article topic you would like to write about
  2. Search for it and related topics to make sure it's not already covered on Wikipedia
  3. Collect newspaper reports, books, websites and magazines that discuss the subject to use as sources

Go ahead, pick a couple of topics and tell me why you think they should be included. After that we can pick one topic to write an entire article for. - Mgm|(talk) 19:25, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
