Speedy deletion of Kyle Key

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Kyle Key requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mr. Key: I am the administrator who's about to delete your page, and I wanted to assure you that I'm not doing so idly or irresponsibly. Although you've obviously worked hard at it, your article just doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards of notability, to the best of my understanding. You have local celebrity in your area, granted, but that doesn't translate to notability within Wikipedia's definition of the term. Certainly it has problems with Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, but this in itself is not a reason for deletion -- it is, however, a clue to the basic problem. If you were notable according to Wikipedia's definition, it probably would not be you writing this article about yourself. If you read the article at WP:BAND, which is about musicians but is a policy that is the closest approximation to your career as a performer, you just don't meet those guidelines -- you haven't had a national tour, you haven't been the subject of national press attention, won any prestigious awards, etc. My advice for you would be to wait until you achieve some further notability before submitting this article again (either that or add references and citations from national-level media that are presently lacking). If you re-post this article, it will likely end up in Wikipedia's Articles for Deletion process and, if it fails at that process -- which I have to tell you is likely to happen -- you will not be allowed to recreate it under any circumstances except the most unlikely. I do apologize; Wikipedia's notability standards are very high and have daunted many people with performing careers before yourself. If there's something further I can do to interpret Wikipedia policy for you, I'm at your service; you can leave a note on my talk page. Accounting4Taste:talk 04:28, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. I believe I've given you my opinion with respect to your notability and pointed you at the appropriate pages in order that you can find out what Wikipedia policies that opinion is based on; you seem to think that it's worthwhile to try to convince me personally of your notability. Believe me, it's not worth your effort. Personal references from other people in your line of work are completely useless here. You speak disparagingly of appearing on "Larry King Live" but, frankly, that is the level of notability that would be required for you to have an article in Wikipedia. However, you seem determined to not take my word for it even though I am trying to do you a favour. If you'd like, I will recreate your article and take it to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion process -- that will let large numbers of Wikipedia editors express their opinion, and the results will be very final and permanent. I also venture to suggest that their opinion will be the same as mine, and that you will not like reading their opinions of your notability at all. If you'd like to roll the dice and risk making your rejection complete and permanent, you have that option; I'm at your service in that respect. But my advice is still to let it rest at this point until your career brings you more prominently into the public eye. Accounting4Taste:talk 05:16, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your note, and I am pleased to know that you agree with me -- I really do think this is for the best, honestly (I'm a fellow Canuck, I wouldn't steer you wrong). I want you to have the option of coming back to Wikipedia in a few years -- or having the happy surprise of one of your fans creating the page about you. I can appreciate that the article was a lot of work and that you might want to use it in some other context or, as you say, here later. If it's deleted for a long time, an administrator might not be able to find it in the future. What I will do is take the article and put it onto a "sandbox" page that I will create for you; you can then move it into a word processing program. (I would recommend that you do that because private sandbox pages don't last forever -- someone will try to get rid of it in about 30 days, more or less.) In about five minutes, you will find the text of the article at User:Kktm/Sandbox as soon as I can track it down and copy it for you to that location. Thanks for working with me on this one. Again, if there's anything further I can do to help, let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 05:34, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
