I am new to Wikipedia's editing, and want to make a difference here as Wikipedia, through its wonderful editors, has helped me (and continues to help me) in researching and understanding the world around me better, since I was a child. I am now 21, and I feel ready to help more in articles relating to South Africa and, specifically Cape Town, since this is my area of residence and have been going to school, university and working here for most of my life. The problem I have encountered thus far is my lack of "encyclopedic" content while editing a page. At first, I thought it was just about sources, but "lack of sources" is listed as a separate issue from "non-encyclopedic". I have been on a couple help pages and am struggling to grasp what this concept entails, which is clearly a key to become anywhere close to a decent Wikipedia editor. Can anyone help me to understand what is "encyclopedic" content? I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance :) LMBCo (talk) 06:27, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
- I think we covered most of this in the IRC session at #wikipedia-en-help. I think what was being called "unencyclopedic" was that rather detailed description of the physical facilities of the school, which cited no source and which would not normally be considered noteworthy for inclusion unless some independent source made the case. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 07:07, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
