Hi,

Just got your message. I'd love to share. Jonbreaks@yahoo.com

Homeschooling

[edit]

Well for one I homeschooled from 7th grade on up and graduated at the age of 16. I don't think School has anything to do with "socializing" etc. I had a horrible horrible public school experience and the schools around where I moved to in the 7th grade are even worse, academically and socially. When I was young and homeschooled I had friends here on the street I live on, when I got older like 16+ I started to make friends outside of my town in another town 30 minutes away through church and the mall.

I think the whole idea of your kids need to be in public school to get social interactions and friends is stupid, when they graduate high school they are more than likely going to leave/lose those friends. Now I have known some homeschooled kids that were cut off from social life, you know, definite geeks etc. Just really seemed like they didn't know what was going on in the world other than things they found out through the internet (they were all gamers and such, movie buffs so thats all they cared about), they had horrible fashion sense etc etc.....But that was totally on the parents fault, their parents didn't go and bring them places like the mall and church like my mom did, and when they did go to the mall they had already been so cut off from other kids cuse of their parents morals and such that they wouldnt talk to any casual kid cuse they would imagine those kids as being "bad" or w/e. So though I do like homeschooling its not perfect....neither is public school.

A request for your help with my research

[edit]

Dear Leopold Stotch

My name is Jim Sutton and I'm undertaking research in the School of Library, Archive, and Information Studies, UCL.

My research involves studying wiki usage, the reasons why individuals use wikis and the benefits/disadvantages of using wikis to manage knowledge.

I noticed a contribution of yours to the article on wikis and I was wondering if you would agree to my analysing your contributions to Wikipedia. This will basically involve calculating how many times you've contributed to Wikipedia within the time period of a week.

I was also wondering what your reasons are for using/contributing to Wikipedia. I'd be extremely grateful for any feedback you can provide.

If you agree to my analysing your contributions and can provide any feedback as to why you contribute to Wikipedia I’d be very grateful. My email address is james.sutton (at) ucl.ac.uk and can be emailed at this address if you agree and have any feedback or questions.

I also have a survey online which I'm using as part of my research at:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stqa7937/survey/

My Wikipedia username is Sutton4019 and my research is being carried out jointly with Melissa Terras at UCL. Her email address is m.terras (at) ucl.ac.uk .

If you have any questions please let me know and thank you for your time. Thanks! --Sutton4019 09:18, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Leopold Stotch for agreeing to my request and for your feedback. Your right, I haven't contributed to Wikipedia yet :/ and feel a bit nervous of doing so at the moment but I do enjoy reading Wikipedia and find it a valuable resource. I do contribute to my work wiki though and am becoming more and more interested in using wikis. So my research is quite a big learning experience for me and the responses I've had back so far have been really interesting. Thanks again for your help. --Sutton4019 14:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Heaven Underground

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Heaven Underground, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. List of people affected by bipolar disorder

[edit]

Hi. I was reading the discussion on List of people affected by bipolar disorder and saw your reply to those who thought the list was unnecessary and/or offensive, and I was glad to see that you appreciated the value of the article. I once found myself in a very similar debate. I had started a list of notable children of alcoholics (considerable research has established that they have common psychological traits and obstacles, and as a group, they are an ongoing subject of study). Unfortunately, the article was deleted, as was the acoa article, and I was nearly banned. I was wondering, if I ever try to bring the page back, would you be willing to offer your perspective to help show people why such lists are a valuable part of wikipedia? --Elplatt (talk) 04:45, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. I got pretty bored of Wikipedia. My articles keep getting deleted, etc. I'm not convinced that this mass collection of knowledge is a positive thing anymore. I just saw Inglourious Basterds and the Jew Hunter character had an interesting line about rumors being more interesting and sometimes more revealing than facts (or something like that). I learned more about my favorite bands from when I was younger in 30 minutes on Wikipedia than I did my whole life until reading the articles. I'm not sure that's a good thing. It kind of sucks the life out of things. I think I understood the Smashing Pumpkins in a more important way growing up than the way you would understand them from reading a bland, fact-after-fact article.
I feel for you about your ACOA passion because I happen to think it's a very important topic and should be talked about. But why do you care so much if there's a Wikipedia article about it? These Wikipedia bureaucrats are a pain in the ass to deal with. If you're that passionate about spreading knowledge about ACOA than go for it. Let me know if you do, maybe I'll throw in an argument or two. Leopold Stotch (talk) 07:27, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
