Hello,

I am currently a fifth year student at Cal Polytechnic Pomona, my major is Kinesiology exercise science. My goal is to have a profession in physical therapy.

School[edit]

Cal Poly Pomona is the school that I currently attend and previously played basketball for for 2 years. I am a fifth year student finishing up her bachlors degree. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, or Cal Poly Pomona, is a public university located in Pomona, California, United States. It is one of two polytechnics in the 23-member California State University system.

Cal Poly Pomona began as a satellite campus of the California Polytechnic School (today known as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) in 1938 when a completely equipped school and farm in the city of San Dimas were donated by Charles Voorhis and his son Jerry Voorhis. The satellite campus grew further in 1949 when a horse ranch in the neighboring city of Pomona, which had belonged to Will Keith Kellogg, was acquired from the University of California. Cal Poly Pomona, then known as “Cal Poly Kellogg-Voorhis”, and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo continued operations under a unified administrative control until they became independent from each other in 1966.

Chanel nail polish

Traditional colors for nail polish were red, pink and brown, but modern nail polish can now be found in any color. French manicures traditionally mimic the color of natural nails, using a clear, beige or soft pink polish on most of the nail with a white finish at the tips.

Black has been a popular color of nail polish with goths, emo and punks of both genders since the 1970s, However Black and dark nail colours were a huge trend as early on as the 1930's.

Nail polish forms and techniques have evolved beyond painting solid colors. One such example is the nail stamp products, which involve stamping colored polish designs to nails. Popular design examples include as cheetah prints, flowers, and animal characters. Youtube is booming with thousands of nail art tutorials. There are also polishes that give a "crackled," intricate design when applied. Another new nail trend is magnetic nail polish. Upon application you hold the magnet that comes with it over the varnish for a wavy effect. Another form of nail polish are nail polish strips, polished stickers for nails. There are also nail decorations, such as rhinestones.

Some types of polish are advertised to cause nail growth, make nails stronger, prevent nails from breaking, cracking and splitting, and to stop nail biting. Nail polish may be applied as one of several components in a manicure.

Clear varnish is a transparent and glossy layer which can make the nails appear clean and shiny. This type of nail polish can be used over other varnish for gloss or by itself, as can glitter nail polish. Similar to a clear varnish is an acrylic gel polish. This polish is much like the gel products used in nail salons, which is essentially a strong, clear top coat typically applied over a colored polish. The acrylic gel polish is more than just a glossy layer over nails; the polish gives the underlying color polish support and protection from being easily chipped.

Music[edit]

Adele performing in Seattle, Washington, on 12 August 2011

Adele's voice is categorised as contralto.[1] Initially, critics suggested that her vocals were more developed and intriguing than her songwriting, a sentiment with which Adele agreed.[2] Adele's first album is of the soul genre, with lyrics describing heartbreak and relationship.[3] Her success occurred simultaneously with several other British female soul singers, with the British press dubbing her a new Amy Winehouse.[4] This was described as a third British Musical Invasion of the US.[5] However, Adele called the comparisons between her and other female soul singers lazy, noting "we're a gender, not a genre".[3][6][7] By the beginning of 2009, listeners and critics started to describe Adele as unique. AllMusic wrote that "Adele is simply too magical to compare her to anyone."[8] American singer Beyoncé Knowles cited Adele as one of the influences for her fourth album, 4.[9] J. J. Burnel of The Stranglers' is also a fan, stating; "She had me riveted... Of course she's huge and normally that would turn me off because it's too commercial. But I was seriously impressed,".[10] Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana has repeatedly praised Adele in interviews.[11][12]

Sports[edit]

Basketball is a team sport, the objective being to shoot a ball through a basket horizontally positioned to score points while following a set of rules. Usually, two teams of five players play on a marked rectangular court with a basket at each width end. Basketball is one of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports.[13]

Los Angeles Lakers Wordmark

The Laker nickname came from the state of Minnesota being the Land of 10,000 Lakes.[14] The team's colors are purple, gold and white.[15] The Lakers logo consists of the team name, "Los Angeles Lakers" written in purple on top of a gold basketball. Purple uniforms are used for road games and gold uniforms are used for home games. The team also wears white jerseys for Sunday and holiday home games.[16]

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. They play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, which they share with their local NBA rival, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL, and the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA.[17] The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, and have won 16 championships, their last being in 2010. As of 2012, the Lakers are the most valuable NBA franchise according to Forbes, having an estimated value of $900 million.[18]
