Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:47, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I work for Wood Green, The Animals Charity in the communications department. I can verify if you would like me to email using my work account. We need to be able to update our Wikipedia page: Wood Green Animal Shelters WoodGreenTheAnimalsCharity (talk) 13:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Decline reason:

That username also violates WP:USERNAME. And we aren't interested in having you update your Wikipedia page; that would run afoul of WP:COI, WP:PAID, and possibly, WP:PROMO. Yamla (talk) 13:25, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The name you have chosen complies with the relevant policy; so, that problem has been addressed satisfactorily, as far as I'm concerned. Then again, you say We need to be able to update our Wikipedia page and that's a problem. First of all, that's not your page, that's Wikipedia's page about the organisation for which you work. That may seem a distinction without a difference; however, it makes a great deal of a difference, in that the page has to conform to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, rather than suit your needs. Furthermore, on Wikipedia, WP:COI editing is strongly discouraged. For these reasons, I am uncomfortable unblocking you, until you can convince us that you'll abide by our policies and regulations. To that end, I suggest you familiarise yourself with WP:COI. Salvio 14:31, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Look guys, I represent a small animals charity from Cambridgeshire and I am new to Wikipedia. I understand your hesitation and your assertion that it is not our page, it is Wikipedia's, of course. I am only trying to contribute to the overall quality and recency of information presented on the Wikipedia page that represents my organisation. I understand the conflict of interest concern, however, there are two things; 1. we are a small charity and as can be evidenced by the lack of information or updates on the Wood Green Animal Shelters page (being classified as a stub page), it does not get updated with relevant information regularly by the Wikipedia community. In fact, it has only had sixteen updates in the last 10 years! So if, as an organisation, Wood Green cannot rely on the Wikipedia community to maintain the page's relevancy. Then, there is no option but for a staff member to update this page with accurate, non-bias information. 2. I am committed to abiding by your policies and regulations that the Wikipedia community thrives on. And the only way I can prove that to editors, is by having input to this page and being unblocked. Please could you reconsider unblocking my account? I am open to any guidance that can be offered with regards to updating articles correctly. I promise, we hold the same goal here. Thank you.Don't bite the newbie..WoodGreenTheAnimalsCharity (talk) 15:55, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Since the only reason for the block was your user name, which has now been changed, and since you were free to just create a new account for yourself if you had chosen to, there can't possibly be any justification for keeping you blocked, so I shall unblock your account. However, please read the conflict of interest guideline before you do any more editing, if you haven't already read it, and try to comply with its requirements, as otherwise you may find yourself blocked again.
