Nomination of Hardy (hill) for deletion[edit]

Hardy hill[edit]

Thanks but I took out the external link on my second attempt in case it was considered promotional! - so I've taken it out again. Hi Rambler, a few points for your consideration:

Chris Neville-Smith has changed his opinion to userfy at the deletion debate for your article. This means moving the page from the main article space into your own user space as a sub-page, so it would be User:MVO Rambler/Hardy (hill). By that means you can avoid the whole deletion thing and work on the article until it is ready to be moved back to prime-time. You can do that yourself or I can do it for you (just ask me here) and I will close the AFD. And of course, if you leave it and it gets deleted (as seems likely) you just have to ask myself or any other admin and we will give you a copy of the deleted article so you have the original to start expanding.
Please do stick around and try editing some other articles, we need all the help we can get. ;) This will help to give you a feel for the general style with which articles are written, e.g. we don't parenthetically exclaim "(or unfit!)" - not that your writing is bad or anything.
On a personal note, I was reading the bit about "bagging" the Hardys and noticed a parallel. I am an avid geocacher, among the benefits are exercise (walked 20 km last Sunday) and finding beautiful spots - and the satisfaction of bagging everything in an area. :) It strikes me that you could hide a geocache near each of the Hardys, giving people a physical and internet-based way to track their progress. And on geocaching.com you would have a little more latitude, i.e. you can title your caches as "The Hardys - #1", "The Hardys - #2" and place in your descriptions of each location. Or organize them into various series within an area, with clues to locate a final cache. Don't be surprised if a cacher completes the entire list, we tend to be like that. :) Just a thought.

Geocaching[edit]

Thanks Franamax - hope you saw my initial response on your page (I've now seen where you'd prefer responses!). Re. geocaching, how about putting it up as a topic on the forum on www.thahardys.org and seeing if you get any feelers? nb. the Forum's new and it's still rather "lonely"! There's a lot of people looking (from the site stats) but nobody's playing (yet, hopefully). nnb. there's also a Facebook group "The Hardys High points" - same applies, if you're on there of course - I know a lot of people who aren't for various reasons which are understandable! Hi MVO Rambler, I got your note(s) at my talk page. Normally I would respond there, but I owe you an apology for having first missed your message on my user page, and then after Sluzzelin kindly moved it to where I could see it, failing to respond to you. Sorry! :)

Your user draft at User:MVO Rambler/Hardy (hill) looks much better, those are exactly the kind of third-party sources we were asking for. I don't think you will need to provide scans, we generally put maximum trust in our editors to be honest when they cite print sources. That is why when an editor is found to be making things up, it's seen as pretty much the worst thing they could ever possibly do. But we assume good faith first. It's good if you do have the scans in case someone asks for them, but you don't have to provide them up-front.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. If you want to move the page back into mainspace right now, you can remove the [square bracket] notes and go ahead, or I can do it for you. It looks OK to me, but I can't speak for the other new-page patrollers, so I can't guarantee anything. My thinking is that if you can get one or two more of the sources you are reminding yourself of, everything will be fine and I would definitely support the article. I'm just a little hesitant 'cause I wouldn't want to lead you into getting bitten twice. You could ask for a review over at the article incubator talk page, though I'm not exactly clear how that process works or how fast you will get a response.

Is the "recognized as an authority by LDWA" bit supported in one of your sources? It seems key to me that you have a source for that, as that is the major notability argument. Franamax (talk) 21:55, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Franamax - encouraging. The LDWA authority letter to me I annoyingly can't lay my hands on in my records. I've had some correspondence with them (hence their refs) but they can't find the letter now either (so far, hopefully). Their Management Committee is still confirming the addition of my list to their website (similarly the Database of British Hills) - I'll wait a bit longer for these, and review if they're slow whether to try again without them up front. As you requested on my talk page, I've moved the page back into the article space. Of course I can't guarantee it will stay there, but it looks reasonable to me, so we'll see how it goes. With regard to your comment about "other articles", yeah, we do have a bunch of crap out there. ;) But we do try to judge each article on its own merits and officially ignore what WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, to do otherwise would inevitably just lead downhill. No worries. We're moving back to UK soon, so I hope to do a spot of rambling and peak bagging, hopefully with family and friends. So I'll be exploring the hardy website and others.
