Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Rollback question

The rollback policy says "do not rollback good faith edits" but RedWarn has an option to rollback a good faith edit. What do I do? AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 09:43, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

@AssumeGoodWraith: The problem with Wikipedia's built-in rollback is that it does not leave a meaningful edit summary, so it should only be used for vandalism (the assumption is that if you use rollback, you are rolling back vandalism only and do not need to leave an edit summary to explain to the person why you reverted their edit). RedWarn's rollback while assuming good faith feature explicitly states in the edit summary that you are rolling back an edit that is not vandalism. Does that make sense?
