Discussions on Wikipedia

[edit]

Could I suggest that mundane editorial disagreements are most likely to resolve quickly and productively when editors observe the following:

  • Remain polite per WP:Civility.
  • Solicit feedback and ask questions.
  • Keep the discussion focused. Concentrate on a small set of related matters and resolve them to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Focus on the subject rather than on the personalities of the editors.

I recently removed your comment from Talk:Lerdo because Wikipedia is not a soapbox. If you would like to discuss the article in particular, that is fine. Otherwise, please find a better place for your statements, such as a relevant Wikipedia:Wikiproject. Cheers! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 04:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. If you need anything else, feel free to ask! Cheers again! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 04:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I explained on your user page, your removal of my appropriate comment about an edit I made to the Lerdo article was little more than vandalism. If you question the merit of the ((fact)) tag I added to the article, please point to a citation. Attacking my concern about plagiarism, and my accurate description of republication without citation as plagiarism by claiming that I am on a soapbox demeans my contribution to the project. I made comments about the provenance of the information in that Wikipedia article because other readers might be interested in the provenance of information in that article. I suggest you find better things to do with your time than attacking those of us who are concerned about degradation of the integrity of information, and who are articulate enough to explain in particular instances how Wikipedia degrades information by repeating putative facts without saying where the information came from. The fact tag is not a concern at all. Other concerns you have might be good at Wikipedia:WikiProject Geography, in particular Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography. Anything else? -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 05:03, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Knock off the patronizing offers for help. I never asked you for anything. You have not offered me anything useful. You have damaged my contribution to Internet users who would access Wikipedia.
If you have now decided the comments you earlier deleted are now so meaningful to the project that they should be forwarded and amplified in other parts of the project, the best choice for you would be to understand my concern until you can articulate it to my satisfaction, so you know you truly understand my concern, then advance that concern -- or any related concern that might be inspired by my contribution -- to the places you consider appropriate. Attacking me for articulating the valid concern is not appropriate. Marakopa 05:07, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
