Proposed deletion of John Taylor (given name)

The article John Taylor (given name) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a bit inaccurate. None of these people have "John Taylor" as a double name. John Taylor Gatto added Taylor to prevent confusion and Jonathan Taylor Thomas doesn't even have "John".

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Tavix ^(talk) 00:37, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the advisory. I have no issue with the proposed deletion. I created this page back in my early days as an editor when I used to clean-up dab pages. I was cleaning-up John Taylor (disambiguation), which at the time had a "given names" section that included the names that I moved to this new page. I must admit that I didn't verify the accuracy of the entries under that heading and simply moved them to a new page. I think you've made a good case for the page's deletion. Cheers! Question re: Alexander Siddig page

Hi, this is a follow-up to your message about reverting my changes to Alexander Siddig's Wikipedia page. The fansite in the citation is his official fansite. It's the only official site for the actor. Does that qualify it as reliable?

Reliable sources as per Wikipedia's guidelines are "independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." Examples would include newspapers, magazines and books published by respected and established publishers that presumably have a relatively reliable level of editorial oversight.

Unfortunately there really is no way to vouch for the fact-checking and accuracy of sidcity.net. The information at that site may very well be true, however information posted to Wikipedia should not only be true, it should also be verifiable. This is of special importance when it comes to adding information to biographies of living persons (BLPs). We run into dangerous territory when basing encyclopedic information off of websites that are not technically "reliable sources."

We should also consider the privacy of Siddig's wife. As is stated on the BLP policy page in regards to the privacy of names: "The presumption in favor of privacy is strong in the case of family members of articles' subjects and other loosely involved, otherwise low-profile persons," and that "names of family members who are not also notable public figures must be removed from an article if they are not properly sourced."

I personally was unable to find any articles via web searches that mentioned the marriage in question. If Siddig and his wife have no issues with the larger public being aware of their marriage, then presumably this information will be published in future articles about Siddig by more "reliable" sources.
