Angela Davis Article Critique[edit]

I recently visited the Angela Davis page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects worth commenting on:lack of detail in relationship with Huey P. Newton and the Black Panther Party, her involvement with the communist party and some citations not being clear.

The Black Panther Party

There is plenty of detail about her education, and her "conspiring" with the Soledad brothers, but only a couple of words about the Black Panther Party. As one of the first women to join the party, that should be noted. Also the impact that she made along side Huey P. Newton fighting for civil rights, and equality should be elaborated. The Black Panther Party is a big part of her life, and helped contributed to who she is today; Dr. Angela Davis the activist.

Communist Party

The page shows that Angela Davis was a Communist, but the page does not get into the reasoning behind her joining the political group to begin with. It also doesn't state how she started her on Communist group, or how she ran for vice-president of the Communist Party in its entirety. The page should also included the work that Angela has done during her time as an active Communist.

Citations

At the bottom of the page, there are a lot of references that are listed. As I went through the list, I noticed quite a few that had links where not accessible or redirected me to a different page when I clicked on it. There are also a couple of books listed, but when I clicked on the link, it takes me to a page where I can purchase the book instead of the section the information came from. Also, in the early life section, there are only about eight citations listed. Since there are so little citations, I am thinking where did the other information come from.

Summary

The page had bunch of information, but it did not elaborate on many topics that where stated. The page also seems a little bias. It goes into great detail about the negative stuff in her life, but everything else besides where she received her education is very minimal. The section where it states representation in other media, it only list about her being in a painting by Rentao Guttuso. The section contained very little and should have more information in it. Overall, the page was okay and contained just enough information to know a little bit about Angela Davis .

Hi MarsBars,
Welcome at Wikipedia! Your critique of the Angela Davis article seems to merit scrutiny, so I would advise you to copy it to the article talk page. Not many people will read it here at your own talk page.
Dead links in references are difficult to avoid as they generally point and must point to the sources as they were at the time of writing. That's why it is good practice to document information on the sources, including the access date. Sometimes it is possible to find the new url of the referenced information of it can be tracked in Archive.org's Wayback Machine. The best is of course to find and mention newer and richer sources. Even then it may be useful to retain the old references. Anyway, feel free to incorporate your knowledge in the article, but be aware of the guidelines in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons (wp:BLP or BLP for short).
A minor point regarding your edit in the article: you added your signature, which is never done in the article namespace. There is no need to do so as the Revision history shows all edits and authors. Clicking prev or curr will reveal the differences between the clicked version and the previous or current version. Clicking a date will show the article as it appeared then. Feel free to try; you can't do harm unless you click undo—and even that could easily be repaired.
Thanks for your effort, have a good time at Wikipedia!
