Lake[edit]

Please take it to talk per WP:Bold rather than edit warring. The Caspian is a "sea"; it's also a geological ocean. The def. in the article might need to be adjusted if we can ref it. — kwami (talk) 10:30, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So, what is Caspian Sea according you? The 6th ocean (in addition to Pacific ocean, Atlantic ocean etc.)? Or a sea, which belongs to which ocean? If we say it's a lake, there's no any other disputes! --Marturius (talk) 11:57, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are legal arguments as to whether the Caspian is a "lake" or an "enclosed sea"; if the later, the Law of the Sea applies, which would be disadvantageous to Russia, so Russia argues it's a "lake" and Kazakhstan argues it's a "sea". — kwami (talk) 10:48, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I respect simple rule in physical geography and oceanography that oceans and seas must be connected with the world ocean. I don't understand why this rule can be a problem.
