Paternal vs. Maternal[edit]

In regards to your edits on the Prince William, Duke of Cambridge page here and here; The Queen Mother would be on William's paternal side because she is a relative via Charles (his father's) side of the family. It's irrelevant whose side she is once you go further on the family tree than that.

For clarity, the definitions of maternal and paternal (per Merriam-Webster):

  • Maternal: related through a mother [1]
  • Paternal: related through one's father [2]

I can understand the confusion, since The Queen Mother would be related to Charles through his maternal line, but since we are strictly speaking about William, her relation is through his paternal side (aka through Charles). Therefore the material on the page was originally correct and I would appreciate if you would stop reverting it. Hope this clears this up for you.
