Archive Links

Hi, just wanted to ask about the mass Archival Link adding, I'm not saying its a bad idea, but I kind of feel like running a script to add tens of thousands of bytes across several dozen articles should receive a little discussion. Was there thread about this on a Wikipedia talk page, or at some Internet Archive Bot meta talk page or is it just a personal prerogative to implement the bot locally to Archive Links to all the external links? Just asking.-- Patrick, oѺ 21:59, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

@Patrickneil: It's not like it is bad or anything. I do this to just combat link rotting. Who knows when the references get removed? Besides sometimes some of the contents in some external links gets modified, I think it's good to keep a archive of their history. Sincerely, Masum Reza 04:41, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
No, not bad, just I'm not sure about the precedent for this sort of action. There are probably billions of external links within references on Wikipedia. Is it your idea that they should all have an archive.org link attached? For me, I find it misleading to see "Archived from the original" in a reference with live links. I see that as a suggestion that the link is old and needs to be updated, or is perhaps less reliable than a link without this text. Did you post about doing this on a central discussion page like Wikipedia:External links or start a discussion about this to see if its a real issue that we should be addressing?-- Patrick, oѺ 18:45, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
@Patrick I am not planning to archive every external links in Wikipedia. I sometimes archive links I happen to come across. I didn't post anything about it on WP:External links because I don't see it as a bad thing. Sincerely, Masum Reza 21:14, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
To the line/ reply at the "{{re|}}." Once on this page/ article. The old link/ url went to the same web-site, but it was updated to a different one. So then it still has the same info there. But you wouldn't need the; web archive link there?
To the line/ reply starting from misleading; Lately over on some urls/ links to refs on some anime/ manga web-sites. I've seen a bot do that. If the tv studio didn't use the web-site anymore. But after about a year or two? Maybe to at least four or longer? If it ran for a single season. Tainted-wingsz (talk) 19:57, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Mausam

Thank you for your response. I am a fan & not an expert in writing or editing. Initially, I had made changes in the edit but stopped as caution by Oshwah. The reason for writing Kalpana Filmography is for her fans. After more than 5 decades since Kalpana stop working, she is still remembered as the most beautiful actress of her era by her fans. It’s sad that most of her die heart fan remember her for 1 or 2 movies. So I collected info about her movies from youtube videos & IMDB. I do agree Writing is not my strong area of work. I only request to add her filmography. As ‪Symmachus Auxiliarus‬ mention in his message that "Note that IMDB alone can't be used to establish notability, in the Wikipedia sense of the word. " I agreed fact-checked can be done from the other sources like youtube videos. I can send you the link to verify the credentials of her work. I have edited the extra detail such as directors & co-star. I hope this is fine.

Filmography 1. Pyar Ki Jeet (1962) 2. Naughty Boy (1962) 3. Professor (1962) 4. Saheli (1965) 5. Teesra Kaun (1965) 6. Teen Devian (1965) 7. Biwi Aur Makan (1966) 8. Tasveer (1966) 9. Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966) 10. Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967) 11. Ek Bechara (1972)

Early life: She was also an accomplished Kathak dancer trained under Pandit Shambhu Maharaj. She was a good swimmer & Horse rider too.

Career: Nehru often invited Kalpana, a trained Kathak dancer, to dance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan whenever dignitaries visited. Actor Balraj Sahani and Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai spotted the beautiful dancer and encouraged her to come to Mumbai and try her luck in films.

@Yashkkaryan: About sourcing and referencing, IMdB and isn't a reliable source as most of the informations here user uploaded. YouTube isn't a reliable source either except videos uploaded by verified organizations like the film distribution or production companies. So you need find new sources(like a news website) to back up those informations. See WP:RSP for information about sources which are unreliable. See also WP:RS to know about reliable sources. Sincerely, Masum Reza 20:43, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Thank you so much for advice & resolving it. I really appreciate it. Youtube may not be 100% accurate but Times of India article on Kalpana Mohan has to be reliable as it is published newspaper facts & on basis of it Kalpana Mohan Wikipedia article is based, you can too fact check the link given in the Kalpana Mohan reference.

Since I cannot be attached a snapshot here I copy paste from the article "Kalpana Mohan was born in Srinagar on July 18, 1946. Her father, Avani Mohan, a freedom fighter, was close to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and an active member of the All India Congress Committee. Kalpana, who trained in Kathak, was often invited by Nehru to dance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan whenever dignitaries visited. She was spotted by actor Balraj Sahani and Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai, who encouraged her to come to Mumbai. Kalpana got her first break in the movie Professor in 1962."

Compare my changes which you can update now as fact are verified.

I really appreciate your guidance & help for a beginner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yashkkaryan‬ (talkcontribs)

@Yashkkaryan: That's great. Yes indeed news websites like Times of India are reliable. Find new sources like this and you can add relevant and new information in no time. About your messages like I said you should sign your post on talk pages by four tildes "~~~~". Now be bold in editing and do it yourself. You can also use a draft space or sandbox for practice editing and publish it when you think it is ready. Sincerely, Masum Reza 20:55, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Masum Reza Thank you for your support & help. I have used the sandbox for practice editing and publish it for review. I hope my first article will be published soon. Thank you sirYashkkaryan (talk) 14:52, 24 April 2019 (UTC) once again for encouraging new users. Yashkkaryan (talk) 14:52, 24 April 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan

@Yashkkaryan: I think you got the wrong idea. You shouldn't create a duplicate draft page and submit it for review. As the page already exists in the mainspace, your article won't be accepted. What I was trying to say is use a sandbox or draft page to organise your edits. Then publish it to the real Kalpana Mohan page. For example practice your editing skills and things you are not good at(I think writing in a neutral point of view and finding reliable sources in your case), in sandbox. This will improve your writing skills. Then copy or cut and paste your edits on the real page. Sincerely, Masum Reza 17:50, 24 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Masum thanks for your editing tips & advice. It will help me to write better for the future. Only change been made to "Career" her Filmography added in a logical sequence of release. Please check. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yashkkaryan (talkcontribs)

It looks like I misunderstood you. Carry on your work. Sincerely, Masum Reza 04:25, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, Sir, for your kind & encouraging words. It really means a lot to me as a person & as a new blogger. I did as per your instruction added the review in the Kalpana Mohan Page. The changes I made are not visible today?. It is back to the prior version. Is it my changes made are under review or were not approved. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yashkkaryan (talkcontribs)

Please sign your posts when posting to talk pages. Sincerely, Masum Reza 17:04, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
@Yashkkaryan: Is the editor behind this IP 27.4.35.230 you? If so then I must say these words. First of all your edit is neutrally written which is good. Secondly you didn't cite your source using a reference which is bad. I recommend you to read the policies and guidelines related to editing which I left on your talk page. You can't just say "It is because it is." We have a policy here to verify all the edits made into the articles. So you must add a source or reference. Unfortunately like I said before you can't use IMdB as a reliable source. You should cite sources like Times of India and other news websites. Holes this helps. Don't get upset about it. When I was new here this kind of stuff happened to me too. Even now sometimes when I make mistakes my edit gets reverted. Sincerely, Masum Reza 17:25, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you once again for the valuable tip. I have now added the cite source https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/news/Shammi-Kapoors-Gulbadan-Kalpana-Mohan-dies-at-65/etarticleshow/11433606.cms?referral=PM. you can check. Regards Yash Aryan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yashkkaryan (talkcontribs)

@Yashkkaryan: Good. Make sure the references can verify all of the details in your edits. Otherwise your edits may get challenged again and reverted. So don't add any information that you can't verify. Sincerely, Masum Reza 06:02, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Masum

Sir I have followed your advice writing in a neutral point of view and finding reliable sources in my case. Which I did the article of Times of India is a reliable source.

Sir, you deleted the line ” Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru often invited Kalpana, a trained Kathak dancer, to dance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan whenever dignitaries visited”. This line is a part of the newspaper article. It is the straight copy and pastes from the article. So the point why it is removed? It had not violated neutral point of view.

Sir if India 1st Prime Minister call you to perform at prestigious Rashtrapati Bhavan before Foreign dignitaries visited. It is indeed a great high in an Individual career. It is one of her career highlights. But you have deleted her achievement, Could you please explain it?

Also, Sir you had added an extra line, Which I quote “Her third film, Professor (1962), was successful. It starred Shammi Kapoor, who earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actor. In 1965”

My objection is to the line “who earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actor. In 1965” ” Sir does this line is a Kalpana Mohan achievement? Then why it is on her page. It can be an achievement for actor Shammi Kapoor so it has to be on his page or in the film, Professor (1962) page.

Sir can you please provide clarity on the above matter.

One more point I like to highlight does the Filmography I added differ from the name already mention on Kalpana Mohan Page. I have only added them in chronological order of release. I had already provided the link cite my source using a reference. Which I did but still you expect more reliable citation links. The link was not reliable?

Thank you, Sir, for your help. Yashkkaryan (talk) 14:48, 26 April 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan

@Yashkkaryan: First of all I didn't remove the line ” Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru often invited Kalpana, a trained Kathak dancer, to dance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan whenever dignitaries visited.” I just transferred it to the early life section. Because her career was acting not dancing. And you should not copy and paste sentences directly from external links as they might be a subject to copyright. So I changed the wording style.
Second Your edits which got reverted by User:Bbb23 wasn't a violation of neutral point of view but Wikipedia:Verifiability. You should check the edit summary out he left for you. In fact even I don't get some of the reason in the summary. You didn't remove the maintenance tag you just added a citation before it. So the claim is false. Then "false edit summary", this claim is quite true. You stated in your edit summary that you only made changes to the career section but you did edit the section before it. Then about adding promotional material". I don't see anything promotional in your edits. Then "adding unsourced filmography content formatted miserably". It is half true. Your formatting style was very bad. Also some of the films were not listed in the reference from Times of India. Anyway I pinged him, I hope he will explain his claims.
Third, the fact that the movie starred Shammi Kapoor, who earned a Filmfare nomination as Best Actor in 1965, is a related matter. So the article can have it.
And the last the filmography you added had some films that were not mentioned in the Times of India page. So you need to add more reliable sources.
Hope this explains things to you properly. Also if you want to talk to me about same things, then please don't add duplicate sections. Instead left a message in the bottom of the existing section. Sincerely, Masum Reza 15:47, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Masum for your prompt reply.

I would like to apologize for my mistake as I did not read the full article. I did not checked Kalpana Mohan Earlier Life section as my changes were restricted to her Career. The point of trigger that you have deleted her achievement and added Shammi Kapoor nomination. Thanks for highlight copyright issue as well. Also, thanks for highlighting the mistakes. I always believe in Criticism makes you a better person. I can only hope User: Bbb23 had done the same, keeping the communication channel open. What you have explained is too technical for me.

Sir, I need to highlight one point that some movies are as old as 50 to 55 years so it difficult to get a newspaper article reference. But we can use common sense. Kalpana Mohan was an actress so she is visible in the movie. We can check her name in Movie credit list & in the movie itself. Since you are from India too, you can recognize her in the Movie. If needed I can provide you the Movie link too.

All movies names are mention on Kalpana Mohan page except Biwi Aur Makan (1966), Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967) & Ek Bechara (1972)

For which I am submitting a link newspaper Tribune India https://www.tribuneindia.com/2012/20120219/spectrum/main9.htm

The newspaper article include movies Professor, Saheli, Teen Devian Biwi Aur Makan, Pyar Kiye Jaa, Tasveer (1967) & Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967)

I provide you the link of Wikipedia detail will be reliable source too further strength my claim

For Ek Bechara (1972) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ek_Bechara

For Biwi Aur Makan (1966) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biwi_Aur_Makan

For Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967) https://www.cinestaan.com/movies/nawab-sirajuddaula-3492/cast-crew

Filmography 1. Pyar Ki Jeet (1962) 2. Naughty Boy (1962) 3. Professor (1962) 4. Saheli (1965) 5. Teesra Kaun (1965) 6. Teen Devian (1965) 7. Biwi Aur Makan (1966) 8. Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966) 9. Tasveer (1967) 10. Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967) 11. Ek Bechara (1972)

Masum you can add the above Filmography & if you need further clarification do reply.

As per Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source. So you can't use an Wikipedia page for reference. Besides Casts on those pages are not cited either. I explicitly recommend you to read our policies. You might learn more about editing if you play The Wikipedia Adventure game. You can find reliable citations easily if you go to the links in the maintenance tag at the Kalpana Mohan page. Sincerely, Masum Reza 02:52, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the Wikipedia: Reliable sources/Perennial sources, It great help to find a reliable source. while I will find more news editorial as a reliable citation. The newspaper The Tribune article written by Devinder Bir Kaur on February 19, 2012 https://www.tribuneindia.com/2012/20120219/spectrum/main9.htm

The articles mention Kalpana Mohan movies names Professor (1962), Saheli (1965), Teesra Kaun (1965), Teen Devian (1965), Biwi Aur Makan (1966), Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966), Tasveer (1967), Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967) Could you please add these two names in the Kalpana Mohan Page as all above movie are mention except Biwi Aur Makan (1966), Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967)

Yashkkaryan (talk) 20:57, 27 April 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan

Masum you are genius I had more newspaper articles to support, A beauty's successful Bollywood stint', a printed article by Shri.V.Gangadhar at www.thehindu.com on JANUARY 19, 2012 https://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/A-beautys-successful-Bollywood-stint/article13372167.ece

Kalpana Mohan movies names include Professor (1962), Saheli (1965), Teen Devian (1965), Biwi Aur Makan (1966), Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966), Tasveer (1967), Nawab Sirazuddaula (1967), Naughty Boy (1962) You can add these two articles in reference for reliable citation. Thanks

[3] Yashkkaryan (talk) 21:54, 27 April 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan

@Yashkkaryan: I have made some changes to the article. Also when replying to someone's comments in talk pages, use "colon" : just before your words. See my and other editor's reply's source code on my talk page for guide. This makes things easier. Sincerely, Masum Reza 07:10, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Thank you so much.

While adding the name you have missed out to add the movie name Biwi Aur Makan (1966) into the list. The Tribune article written by Devinder Bir Kaur has explicitly mentioned about the movie in a paragraph. Just for reference, I quote from the article: “About the same time, Kalpana also starred in Biwi aur Makan opposite Biswajit. The movie was yet another comedy with Biswajit playing a woman in order to appease the landlady and rent a house with his bachelor friends. The landlady’s niece Kalpana becomes Biswajit’s love interest when he is in his real self as the "woman" Biswajit’s brother.”

Also, The article Shri.V.Gangadhar in The Hindu mentions the movie Biwi Aur Makan (1966)

Yashkkaryan (talk) 19:26, 28 April 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan [4]

Well thanks for pointing that out. But are you sure the Hindu mentioned Biwi Aur Makan? I haven't seen it on that page. Anyway I added the information as it was mentioned in Tribune India. I hope the matter has been resolved. What are you going to do now? I mean your sole purpose was to add those information in the Kalpana Mohan page. Will you back being an editor? I'm sure you'll do great work if you make yourself familiar with our policies and guidelines. Sincerely, Masum Reza 23:56, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Masum, Thanks for all the work. I am still in search to find more news editorial for reliable citation. I am excluding blog, IMDB, Wikipedia, Cinetaan & Blogspot review but I came across Hindigeetmala site. The site contains exclusive information about the Movies in-depth coverage of film cast, music, singers & lyrics & appears more authentic. I understand Wikipedia: Reliable sources/Perennial sources cannot cover all

The Movie name: Picnic (1966) She is visible in the Kathak-based dance & her name mention in actors list. http://www.hindigeetmala.net/song/baalamavaa_bolo_naa_bolo_naa.htm

Also, in the Movie: Ek Bechara (1972) she did a special appearance cameo & her name mention in actors list. http://www.hindigeetmala.net/movie/ek_bechara.htm

Since in these two movies, she was not the leading lady so it is not mentioned in her earlier article submitted. I request can this be taken into consideration or I request you to suggest a way. Thanks Yashkkaryan (talk) 21:11, 1 May 2019 (UTC) Yash Aryan
