Welcome
[edit]Hello Maven of Media and welcome to Wikipedia! You are injecting yourself into a dispute where one of the editors involved has faced serious disruption initiated by a banned user who continually creates sock-puppets to continue their activities. I have a suspicion that you may be an incarnation of that banned user. You can relieve my suspicions by editing in areas completely unrelated to the "Chinatowns" dispute. Simply put, your egging on of Skookum1 to file an AN/I report against DocOfSoc is not needed and not welcome. If you wish to file an AN/I report, do it yourself. My advice is to stay well away from the whole affair. Franamax (talk) 18:25, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
My apologies. I wasn't trying to make trouble for anyone, but I can now see how it could be viewed that way. My reading interests here lie mostly in Asian and First Nations articles, but I have no problem working on other topics if that will relieve your suspicious (as you put it). Skookum1 works on a lot of the articles I read and have interest in. I ended up chiming in on the current problem he's having because I respect his work and obvious knowledge. I now see you are an administrator and so I will properly say "thank you" for the welcome and advice. **Maven of Media (talk) 19:15, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- As you said you've edited "since 2008 through an Ip address", I would assume this means "one" IP address. Would you mind revealing that IP address, just to "set some minds at ease": even if the contributions were "small and infrequent", they're still important! Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated, thank you! (BTW, administrators are just editors with advanced tools: all editors should be ideally be thanked for welcomes and advice. Even newbies!) - Well first of all, admin advice is indeed worth exactly the same as any other editor and I have no special status to tell someone how to act - but at the same time there was a bit of admin-ly warning in there as this is a serious issue. Secondly, no, I have to disagree, Maven is under no obligation of which I am aware to reveal specific IP addresses they have used. You can make the request, but don't get unduly exercised if it is ignored. If they apply for a position of trust, that's a different story - but all editors are afforded pseudonymity so long as they comply with our policies and guidelines. - "Would you mind" is a request, as you pointed out, and there was no mention of "obligation" on my part to reveal anything. I am well aware of IP anonymity and its value to WP, and I appreciate your reiteration of this to myself, and clarification of this to this user. Cheers :> Doc talk 23:27, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

- "Would you mind" is a request, but I didn't take it that way initially. It seems Franamax didn't, either. Even so, I would not be comfortable giving my Ip address here as it was the Ip address used at my place of business. I would also not be comfortable giving it because the request seemed intrusive and I really don't see what valid rationale for a "need to know" there would be. I'm going to assume that the request was made with no malice or ill-intent. We can move on from there in a friendly manner, eh? Cordially, **Maven of Media (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
