Anglo-Indian cuisine[edit]

Hi, and thank you for the enthusiasm with which you have sought to improve this article.

However, several issues have arisen repeatedly. Maybe it'll be best if I just list them briefly:

1) all claims must be cited. It's no good partly-citing a paragraph and then adding some materials at the end based on who-knows-what.

2) Names of other articles are only wikilinked once in the main text.

3) The article is in British English. Apart from a few spelling differences, we'd say "The politician Joe Bloggs" not "Politician Joe Bloggs". We punctuate outside quotation marks unless the punctuation is from the quotation itself, so we'd say 'Bloggs said "Indian food is delicious", according to Smith." (And we use straight quotation marks.)

4) Wikipedia's tone is always neutral, not necessarily dry but always plain and factual. Adjectives like "glaring" are unlikely to be used in Wikipedia's voice.

5) An article on cuisine will rarely describe historical events other than those directly about cuisine itself.

6) Nearly all 20th century Indian restaurants in Britain are not Anglo-Indian; the most common had cooks from Sylhet who prepared food from that region, possibly adapted to British tastes, but not consisting of Mulligatawny soup and Kedgeree: the traditions are entirely separate.

That's a lot of points. I guess the key theme is that it's probably best to start gently. I've copy-edited the article to something closer to the usual house style. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:49, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Chiswick Chap-
While I appreciate (and agree with) your points of recommendation on bettering the article, I do not appreciate you not giving me the chance to edit what I had written. I agree with some of your points on syntax and prose and overall betterment of the article, especially as a new wiki editor, however the addition I made was created to enrich the article and provide a deeper background that the page was greatly lacking. I would hope you'd allow those you're critiquing to edit their contributions rather than you taking it upon yourself to do so before they have the chance.
Best,
