A tag has been placed on Steven R. White, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Netkinetic (t/c/@) 19:33, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please excuse the above editor, and his unfortunate choice of an edit summary. As one of the many administrators here, I screen pages marked for deletion and I of course declined to delete it. However, wikipedians are sometimes skeptical about the importance of professors, and the article will be challenged.
What is needed is:
  • a list of his most important papers, with an indiciation of how often they are cited.
  • A listof prior positions
  • a list of awards and honors.
  • editorships of journals
  • and if at all possible a reference for two published sources indicating that other people think him important.

WP does not fully approve of bios written bynear relatives,so I would make the article as strong as possible.

Things go fast here, and I would do this as soon as possible this weekend. DGG 00:07, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Umm, "please excuse the above editor, and his unfortunate choice of an edit summary". Being an administrator does not give you license to use condescending language. Until this editor...who joins simply to create a bio and then has an anon (same editor) revise a portion of the very minimal article does not merit this article as somehow having an exclusion from db-bio. This is a biographical entry pure and simple without relevant facts. And this is not what Wikipedia is about. Regards. Netkinetic (t/c/@) 03:56, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article you created at Steven R. White was listed for deletion as An article about a real person that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject, criterion 7 in the criteria for speedy deletion, Articles section. Since it appears to be about you I've moved it to your user space instead, which was probably what you intended in the first place (a common mistake among newcomers!).

If you really did mean to create an article about yourself please be aware that this is often considered a bad idea, even if you do meet the guidelines for inclusion of biographies.

I know Wikipedia can be confusing for new editors, so you are welcome to ask for help at the help desk or on my talk page.-Wafulz 04:11, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will of course follow up, strengthen the article, and figure out the best of the several ways to recreate, but be aware that sources are needed.I see not the slightest reason to assume the article was created by the subject--it seems rather to be by a member of his family. 00:17, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
And by what means do you make this assumption? Further, who are you? Please note that signing your posts is recommended by the administrators here at Wikipedia. Regards. Netkinetic (t/c/@) 05:08, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
