Railway Stations[edit]

If you are putting wikilinks on railway stations in Sydney or New South Wales, please note that they should have the form "X railway station, Sydney" where it is in the Sydney metropolitan area, and "X railway station, New South Wales" where it is not. (The boundaries are unofficially the suburban train network - bounded by Emu Plains, Waterfall, Berowra and Macarthur). Same goes for other capital cities and states. Please don't just wikilink everything you come across. JRG 14:22, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JRG Actually the Sydney Suburban ticketing boundaries are Emu Plains, Otford, Cowan and Macarthur. It's strange that because no Suburban trains go to Otford or Cowan anymore. I need help, I'd love to help with putting alot od the train station information together, I've been working on Newnes Junction and the deviations around that area. I like the following method of putting info on the disused stations {{Sydneyclosedstation|-}} I would like to know how to change the default colour from khaki green to maybe black, just to be able to have a uniform colout for the disused railway stations?

To answer your queries: On Wikipedia, the suburban boundaries are set according to the present-day boundaries of the system - that's already been decided, although there are redirects for Cowan, Helensburgh and Otford to the "New South Wales" tag. Also, the khaki tables are the same as used the Victorian format (currently the only state that lists its disused stations) - there are already multiple pages set up this way (see Allandale railway station, New South Wales for example). But we would love your help - just remember that you must have reliable sources and you should wikilink according to the conventions set down here. Thanks. JRG 00:53, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JRG,

I'll try and do my best to post to your high standard, I'm currently doing the western side of the Blue Mountains, I think that the hardest part is going to be the Wolgan Valley Railway, it's so technical and has alot of information from different sources. I belong to a group in Sydney called the Wolgan Valley Railway group so I'm going to put it to them to try and get a relevant history article together.

Mike P

Ok - but please wikilink according to convention - if the links come up red then they don't link to anything - you need to check why that is the case. ALL suburbs are "X, State" (eg. Ropes Creek, New South Wales, not "Ropes Creek") and all railway stations are "X railway station, Sydney" or "X railway station, New South Wales" as the case may be (not "Hope Street Station" or "Delec Platform"). Please also use the citation system (see WP:CITE), and remember that Wikipedia is not a place for line descriptions - you need detailed information on the history of the lines, not just a description of where they run. Have a look at how others have written pages - check out List of Sydney railway stations and look at Redfern, for example. Write your articles like that, but with more sources. JRG 00:04, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JRG

I have decided to take all information off Wikipedia that I have put on.

Why? That's just stupid (and you can't take it off anyway as you have licensed your edits under the Gnu Free Distribution System, which is an irreversible copyleft license). We would like your help here, but all I'm letting you know is that you need to write according to the conventions that have been laid down here - all it requires is just checking your work a little bit. Just check that pages haven't been created already, or that you could put stuff in a better place. Just ask me if you want to; I'm happy to help you. Don't just give up... JRG 13:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not trying to criticise you in any way - just to let you know that WP has some things you need to know - which no one told you about. JRG 13:41, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't get the poo's with JRG, I appreciate your work. The Fulch

I hate the fact that on here they ask you to quote a reliable source, well I don't like copying someone else's work, I had that hassle when I did the article on the 49 class, I didn't copy anything from railpage but someone on wikipedia claimed that I was quoting Railpage. I got most of my facts from print media and not from railpage, I think that railpage is a useless rail media forum. I absolutely enjoyed putting those articles together, I try and chase up all the information that I can and then put my articles together, I cheated a little when I did the Dunheved railway station and used google earth to look at the track formation, especially for the St Marys Munitions Works.

Well, there's nothing wrong with what you are doing - if you're deliberately sourcing material properly (which is great) then you have nothing to worry about. I'm just concerned that there are people on Wikipedia who will delete your articles on sight for being "not notable". If you include some sources in citations then it's less likely that that's going to happen. We really want you to contribute here, but I'm just trying to help and stop people deleting your good work. I hope you don't mind that. One hint though - you need to sign your name with four tildes (~~~~) every time you write something on a talk page. It identifies who is writing on the page. You don't do it on an article though, obviously. JRG 07:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Sandown 02.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sandown 02.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:47, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Now I can see why I hate Wikipedia so much. They make it easy for people to disagree with what you write to change your hard work, but now make it impossible to upload "your own" pictures. I stand track side and take the pictures only to be told by Wikipedia that the information that I have provided isn't enough to post them??? I'm so GLAD that I have my own Facebook groups to post in cos Wikipedia is a waste of my time!
