Your username implies that you are "Miriam ali-de-unzaga" (the author that you keep citing in the article). Are you in any way connected to them? M.Bitton (talk) 12:47, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm responding to M.Bitton, I have been editing an article on Almohad caliphate in English and Spanish, more specifically I have included some of my own bibliographic references. So, yes Iam Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga. Please removed the blockage I would like to include my references also in an article on the Almoravids. It is very frustrating that my name has been included in articles, but the editor of the articles has not included references to my publications. When I do it myself, I am blocked? please let me know. Yours sincerely, Dr. Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga Miriam ali-de-unzaga (talk) 13:28, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that I have also send an email to wikimedia.org, as suggested by the page that informed me that I have been blocked in case I am impersonating a living person. I trust with my email you can verify that this is me Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga. I also have an academia.edu page
I hope you can solve this and unblocked me.
I look forward to your news,
Yours,
Dr. Miriam Ali de Unzaga Miriam ali-de-unzaga (talk) 13:32, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have now seen that my editing (which in fact was to include my own bibliographical references, that is to say the details of my academic publications) has been deleted in the wikipedia article in English in the section of Almohad textiles. I do understand wikipedia has a concern with security, however in this case, you have blocked me because somebody though I am impersonating by adding academic references on my name?, one thing I do not understand if somebody else who is not me can include my name and one study and this is fine, but if I do it my self (I am an academic) this is suspicious of impersonating!!! my references are very ease to check, they are in academia.edu. Ok I hope you can read and solve my case, I would like to continue and have finally my publications in the section of textiles at the article of the almohad caliphate in english. I am spanish but I do write in English, the wikipedia article of the almohad calipahte (imperio almohade) has accepted my edits. I am also including them here, in case you want to include them in the english wikipedia. Many thanks.

Hi Miriam, the short answer to your comments is that if you think there are issues with an article that involve you directly, you should leave a comment on the article's talk page. Your comment should clearly state what you think the issue is (or what you would like to change) and it should also clearly state your conflict of interest (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest). Any change intended in good faith will be taken seriously by other editors, who will also consider other Wikipedia policies if needed. Directly editing information about yourself, adding citations to your own work, etc, usually violates the Conflict of Interest policy. Regardless of what Spanish Wikipedia editors accepted or not (after all, they're just volunteers too), this policy is always in effect.
In the meantime, I have added a citation to your article as it was cited in Bennison's chapter, which was the reference consulted for that particular section at Almohad Caliphate (see this). Thanks, R Prazeres (talk) 14:38, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi R Prazeres, many thanks for taking the time to replying to my request. Apologies for the long reply. 1) One one hand, I am reading now the wikipedia conflict of interest. it says: "Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships." which totally makes sense. But Can you please tell me which COI there is in including my publications (in an article that mentions my name saying I have studied the matter, without giving evidence of it). My intention is to provide readers with the evidence of my bibliographical references. I have not changed the argument of the text of the article. 2) On the other hand, the message that informed me that my editing is blocked PERMANENTLY says it has done so because I might be impersonating a living person. I trust it is clear now I am not impersonating anybody, this is me, I have confirmed my email address and giving my academia.edu details. In my wikipedia "editing" I am merely including my academic references, which is only legitimate, since if I do not do it nobody else is doing it, may be this is a COI?, i.e the person who wrote the article does not want my publications to be known in wikipedia? I am just asking... Can you please tell me how the impersonating suspicion relates to the matter of CoI? in any case I am grateful you have included my 2014 academic reference, I see you have done it because Amira has mentioned it. I would like to have the blocked to be lifted because as you may have seen my topic is Islamic textiles, and there is no much in wikipedia about my work and I would like to include some of my academic references regarding Almoravid textiles, Abbasid and Fatimid textiles. 3) I take the opportunity here to ask you would it be possible for me to write an article for wikipedia on Almoravid textiles? (of course including references from other scholars). 4) lastly, I have seen the topics of your interest and your prolific production in wikipedia, and I would like to tell you that right now I am traveling and I will be going to see the Qal'at Bani Hammad. Hello R.Prazeres, I have found the example of the Almoravid textiles I was telling you about, in wikipedia. Please see article of almoravid (section textiles)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almoravid_dynasty
"Many of the remaining fabrics from the Almoravid period were reused by Christians, with examples in the reliquary of San Isidoro in León, a chasuble from Saint-Sernin in Toulouse, the Chasuble of San Juan de Ortega in the church of Quintanaortuña (near Burgos), the shroud of San Pedro de Osma, and a fragment found at the church of Thuir in the eastern Pyrenees." footnotes 107, 113, 114, 115.
some of those footnotes are more than 30 years old, no problem with that, only that I have published on Almoravid textiles in 2014, 2021. On top of that, more specifically the footnote 114 mentiones the editors of the Louvre volume "Le Maroc Medieval" where I have an article about the Almoravid textiles of San Juan de Ortega ( “The Almoravid Textiles of San Juan de Ortega’s Liturgical Vestments,” in Le Maroc Médiéval. Un empire de l’Afrique à l’Espagne (Musée du Louvre, 2014), pp. 88-91) in that volume but it has been ignored. do you see my point now?
I trust you do, please help in getting my work known. Thanks and I look forward to your news. Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga (talk) 15:59, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Either we trust the reliable source that we're using or we don't. If it says that X studied the matter, then we attribute the statement to it (there's no need for us to look for evidence).
I trust it is clear now I am not impersonating anybody, this is me you just have to wait until your account has been verified.
I have not changed the argument of the text of the article you have. For example, you changed "More recent studies have determined that" to "Some authors have considered – in passing – that" (casting doubt over their research) and then went on to add "Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga has argued that". This is probably what raised the WP:COI concerns. M.Bitton (talk) 16:09, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
hello M. Bitton, thanks for your reply. Yes, I did change some words in the text, but by all means not a change of argument. the Wikipedia article reads
"More recent studies have determined that it was actually a spoil won some years later by Ferdinand III" 1) the studies are from the 1990s, so not so recent, 2) the proposed fact is simply impossible to prove: today, in 2023 we know (textile scholars) that no documents or archival records have been found so far to support this remark (i am one of the few people that have spent years in archives at las huelgas and in Patrimonio Real to find documentary/written evidence, with no outcome yet!). Moreover, when you read the articles you include in the footnotes you can see that Doods, the American scholar who wrote about this piece say that the Spanish authors that wrote about it, have not determined the mentioned fact, they have merely mentioned the possibility without including research or evidence. This is why it is legitimate to say "they have considered it in passing; sorry I hope you see now that to say they have mention it in passing does not imply casting doubt over their research. in the field of Islamic textiles, and more specifically Islamic textiles in Spain, we are very few and we know each other's work well.
I'm taking the time to write this because I'm a researcher but I also work as academic editor and I have almost 20 years of academic work so I know how meticulous we editors are and should be. This is the first time I enter editing Wikipedia, and I see that the editing is strict in the most strict of terms, and sorry I am not familiar with the concept of not changing a single word. regarding "Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga has argued" (which has been left at the Wikipedia article now) I include it because again I have argued and give evidence to support my argument, but it is not cast-on-stone because in dealing with textiles we often lack documentary evidence so prove with total certainty something has happened, that is why argumentation is precious.
Anyway, I am sorry I have caused Wikipedia concerns, about me impersonating me, about changing some words, and most importantly about adding my bibliographical references, which have now been removed. R Prazeres has explained that I including my references is cause for conflict of interest. This is a sad state of affairs and I hope somebody in Wikipedia removes the blockage, which now it permanent I have now learnt the lesson and I will never change any word ever, only want to include my references. If this is something that will take time, alternatively, if would be great if somebody in Wikipedia adds my references in the article, there are in Spanish and French and to my knowledge they have not been mentioned by Spaniards or French scholars, that is why it would be very useful to readers interested in knowing more on the topic to have those references.

Hello R. Prazeres,
Please note in
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marinid_Sultanate
Thanks for including my bibliographic reference.
it reads "Some scholars have suggested" please note it is me Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga who has suggested it. Yours sincerely, I look forward to your news. this week we are celebrating so, 'Id mubarak! Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga (talk) 17:33, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reply to R. Prazeres, I have now seen you have not added my references as I kindly asked you. Instead you have written A Nasrid origin of the banner has also been suggested and you have added two references: Bango Torviso's one paragraph and Ruiz Souza one paragraph. I am happy to see that you have included those, however, please note Ruiz Souza's paragraph says " {...} pendón mencionado del monasterio burgalés de las Huelgas, y que posiblemente fue tomado a los nazaríes o a los benimerines en la segunda mitad del siglo XIII o durante la centuria siguiente" so he says there is a possible marinid or nasrid production.
This tells me you have not read my short chapter of 2014?. May be you do not have access to it?
Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga “La bannière de Las Huelgas dite de Las Navas de Tolosa," in Le Maroc Médiéval. Un empire de l’Afrique à l’Espagne (Musée du Louvre, 2014), pp. 98-99.
In this short catalogue entry, I write that we cannot know with certainty whether the banner at las Huelgas has a nasrid or marinid origin and I include motifs which are present in Las Huelgas banner (the so called Banner de las Navas de Tolosa) and in the artistic production of these two dynasties.
If you are interested I can email you a copy of my 2 pages chapter at the Louvre catalogue. Please let me know. Thanks, Miriam Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga (talk) 18:31, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
sorry I meant Pavón Maldonado, no Bango Torviso¡ Miriam Ali-de-Unzaga (talk) 18:55, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am only just seeing these new replies now. There seems to still be some misunderstanding of Wikipedia's policies. You asked above that we "please help in getting my work known" and other similar comments, and this is precisely what you should not be doing on Wikipedia and why WP:COI is relevant. This can be construed as self-promotion (see WP:PROMO). The ethical problems of that should be easy to imagine. My recommendation to you, once again, is to not edit on specific subjects in which your own work is directly involved. There are plenty of other topics on which you can contribute, if you like, beyond the specific subjects concerned in your academic output. Sincerely, R Prazeres (talk) 22:17, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to R Prazeres's info about COI, please read the block box below for how to request being unblocked. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:47, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
